The gas prices near where I live are $3.59+ a gallon. I have a small car (Ford Focus) and it's pretty good on gas but this is outragious! The interpreting agency pays me for mileage to Dr. appts and business meetings that I interpret but they don't pay me mileage when I work at a specific chain of community colleges because they have a contract with the school...I know for a fact that the agency charges the school for mileage but I don't see a penny of it and that really pissing me off! And worse yet, when I do get mileage it's only $8 which doesn't even fill half my tank. I would get a

little more in mileage if I drove over 25 miles round trip but that just isn't worth it to me. All of these other interpreters that drive all over and earn tons of cash should look and see what they are paying out in gas, and car maintence etc....because then they would see that they are probably only breaking even (if they are lucky.) There is enough local work for most interpreters so that they shouldn't have to drive 20 miles for a 2 hour assignment! Stepping off "interpreter" soap box, Jen Kassia wrote: its just wrong IMO that they aren't doing more to help average americans out. i would be considered lower middle class. make to much to get help, don't make enough to live

comfortably. knock on wood i have no other issues like car or health arise b/c it would throw us into the poor house.it gets me hot pockets are on sale 5/$10(or $2 a box) but eggs which last maybe a day or two here cost nearly $2 or MORE a dozen. btw my milk cost me 3.99(the second gallon this week). the other issue with VA is there is tax on EVERYTHING including your food, tolietries and clothing which when i lived in NJ it was just on the no so nessecities like soda, candy, etc while food, toliet paper, and clothing were tax free but the prices were higher as were property taxes. not even a half tank this morning cost over $18 and i haven't left the city in my car in MONTHS!!!camping was the first time in months that we have been out of lynchburg b/c its so bad. it really is a bad time when dh INSISTS on riding a bike to work without being pushed. i support it wholly as i said before it will help him get back into a healthier weight range b/c its getting out of

control, but also every little we save is going to help. we are trying SOOOOO hard to save money for viola's camp and she needs clothes. i don't know why my senators won't heed the calls like mine(i know i am not the only one writing demanding they take alook at mckain's plan again) but i will keep complaining to any official that has an email or snail mail address that things are ridiculous and when your ya'll in your thousand dollar suits and half a million dollar homes going to help those that REALLY KEEP AMERICA GOING!!! THE AVERAGE WORKING MAN/WOMAN whether be at the desk or in the factory it wouldn't happen without us but yet jobs continue to float overseas and this country is no more then a giant shopping mall instead of the producing country it used to pride itself on. ok off soapbox now LOL. i feel much better. kassia Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo!
