Funny thing you mention that stretch, it was the only part of the DVD I didn't preview last night! I'm glad to hear it is good though, I always need stretching in my hips too. I find I have the same struggle too. I want to do hard workouts to get the benefits of them but then they require more stretching and I'm usually time crunched to get them in anyway so adding on more stretching doesn't always happen and I pay for it later. When you find the secret to the happy medium, please pass it on! :-)

RE: hip update

Thanks for your well wishes, . I forgot to mention my doc emphasize stretching too, especially IT band stretches. I've found that Austin's stretch from her Indoor Walk dvd to be a good one for me, and it has a couple of good hip stretches, so I did that yesterday in the afternoon. When I took that week off of walking I did more stretching, but then when I eased back into cardio the stretching went out the window! I have to find a happy medium there. :-)

Hi ,

I'm so glad you finally have a diagnosis so you can move (literally) forward with this. I'm sure the PT is going to be excited to have you as a client because you're already a very active person and highly motivated to heal quickly.

I wonder if the range between sufficient exercise and overtraining can be widened with consistent exercise, even as you get older... the doc's comments were interesting.

Speaking of aging and exercise, I love the story of the 41 year old (same age as me) Olympic swimmer! She is such an inspiration! Tony Horton going so strong at 50 is too!

I hope you heal quickly so that you can get back to doing what you want!

Keep going , you're doing really great despite your frustrations. Dealing with any kind of injury or setback does affect your emotions, I hope you can find more workouts like this that still challenge you safely.

RE: hip update

Thanks, . I was feeling sore this morning, and not exactly peppy (sound familiar?), so I used lighter weights, and skipped a few reps here and there. Did Cathe SuperSets, just upper body. Good workout, just not into it today. I'm going to get in a few short walks, too. I need to keep moving to keep my mood up - it's all over the place these days. :-)

At least you know what's going on and that it IS treatable.

Hang in there!!

Hi , did you dr. give you a cortisone injection? Does he think it's from over-use or could it be for a previous injury or arthritis? JenSubject: Re: hip updateTo:

Hi Jen. No injections yet - in a month, if it's not better. He thinks it's

from over-use, and a predisposition to bursitis, since I have it also in my

elbows.

Yesterday a 35 minute walk around town didn't bother my hips. Mind you, I

was walking with dh and dd, and the little dog we are looking after this

weekend, so we were hardly breaking any land speed records. :-) Then I did

the first part of the Athletes Intense stretch from Classical stretch, which

set them off. It hurts to stretch, and hurts afterwards, and I don't know

if I should keep doing it. The standing IT band stretch that my doctor

showed me doesn't hurt, though, so I'll keep doing that. I'm sure the

physio can answer that question too, except I don't see them for over a

week....I'll have to call someone next week to ask about this. I know you

shouldn't push through pain, but I've also had physio before, and sometimes

you do have to push it a bit.

Today will be just walking for me. Have a great day, everyone -

from over-use or could it be for a previous injury or arthritis?

,

I've had PT too and yes, sometimes you do have to push through pain but it is guided by a professional that knows how far to let you push. Until you hear otherwise, I wouldn't push through pain right now, you very might well cause further damage.
