Guest guest
It felt so good too!!! Here's what I did: I started with Ultimate Cardio Workout from Next Moves (new intermediate level DVD featuring Dozois sold at Weight Watchers meetings). It was my first time doing this workout (there are 5 on the DVD). This is 20 minutes long but I burned well over 100 calories in just that time (which is really good for me). Some of the moves were familiar to me but I still got messed up here and there as she built combinations. I think she builds 2 or 3 complete combinations (probably 2). It was mostly low impact but high intensity and the higher impact moves can easily be modified down. There is a quick cool down and stretch. The warm up goes very fast and it is hard to tell where it ends and the workout begins but it was fine. I really enjoyed it a lot and am very glad to have another quick but intense cardio workout to pull out especially for days when I only have a short amount of time to workout. After that I did the Carb Killer (kickboxing) workout from 10 Minute Solution Carb Burner, also with Dozois. I've done this at least 2 times before and both times was quite frustrated with learning combined moves and then the combination she puts together with all the moves learned. This time, the light bulb finally went on and it all went well overall. I still had some timing issues with the front and back kicks in the combination but felt fine with it. I finally really enjoyed it a lot too and look forward to doing this one again. Maybe I can even try Turbo Jam or Tae Bo again sometime as I gain more confidence... I got done with those and still wanted to do more. I wanted yoga but wanted more intensity than relaxation so I decided to put in Tony Horton's Ho Ala Ke Kino - Awaken the Body. I've only done it once and that was in late winter, just after I graduated from P90. I liked it then a lot and liked it even better now that my hips and thighs weren't completely fried (he does a lot of moves in various squat positions). This one starts off really slow, then moves into some nice lower body/upper body combination work (your legs are squatting and you're reaching across the body with your arms with slow punches for one thing) and then goes into some stretches and yoga, eventually into fast power yoga. I didn't remember that part at all and wasn't expecting it. By the end I could not go all the way down with my chatturangas (and my arms were never totally into my body so they were more like pushups instead) and at one point I took half a vinyasa to just sit in child's pose then caught up with him as he started the sequence again for the other side. It was really good though!!! Kind of like torture at that point but good torture! A few points, during the squat/punch/stretch/whatever sequences, I had to come out of the squat position because my quads were infernos. I need to try this workout on its own or before doing other workouts sometime just to see how it goes when I'm fresh! It is only 26 or 27 minutes so it could easily be a workout in itself for me on days I need to get done quickly. Gotta remember that! Overall I burned about 330 calories (forgot to turn on my HRM for the first 3-5 minutes and forgot to turn it off a few minutes after I got done) in 56 minutes. Loved it!! A shower never feels so good as when it does after a really good workout!! Now I'm definitely ready for the rest of the day. I hope the rest of my week goes this well. I've lowered my goal from 5-6 days working out per week like it is during the school year to 3-4 for right now with 3 being my real goal this week. I'd love to do more but if I get at least 3 days in then I will feel very good so I'm 1/3 down, 2/3 to go! I hope everyone else has wonderful workouts today! Guest guest
Hi ! Way to fit in a workout! I'm glad you liked this one so much. For some reason I thought you had all of the Walk Slim workouts already. I bought the Walk Slim set on QVC and really like all of them. They were what got me started back to working out again! Finally - one of my " these workouts will get me working out again " purhchases paid off, LOL! Looking forward to hearing about your workouts next week. I miss your posts! Sara > > Today was the first " normal " schedule day I've had in a long time so I was able to work out without having to force myself to do it. The " normal " is in quotes because I did just start doing a meeting on Thursday afternoons today but the schedule is similar to my normal Wednesday so it is easy enough to adapt to it and get a good workout in. Anyway, I did 's 4 Really Big Miles for the first time (just got it yesterday in a trade on VF) and I LOVED it!! The music was mostly similar to other Walk Slim workouts and wasn't quite loud enough but that's a minor complaint. My only other complaint is that the camera angles were kind of weird sometimes. They'd focus on 's mid-section for no apparent reason (she wasn't talking about " tummy tucks " during knee lifts or anything) and sometimes it would be on feet and then switch to whole body. It just didn't seem, at times, planned well but it wasn't terribly distracting and the workout is so simple you don't need to be able to always see what they're doing. Again, very minor complaints, I loved the rest of it! > > The first mile was a 15 minute mile but it felt faster and while all the movements were the same as her usual walks, the pace at which they changed seemed quick and you went from one higher intensity move (arms going up and down while fast walking in place) to another (right into knee lifts or something) without so much long amounts of walking without doing anything with arms in between. That made it seem to go faster and kept my heart rate up. Mile 2... I don't remember it but I think it was more of the same but faster (12 minute mile). Mile 3 had a few 1 minute jogging intervals (those are fun) and was only 10 minutes and Mile 4 had some different but not very memorable music and was good too. I think it was 15 minutes but had the cool-down as part of it. I somehow missed any cueing to say hey we're slowing down for the cool-down although the pace of the music changed... me not being very good on timing with music anyway, kept working out at a higher intensity, though I did feel like I was fighting the music a bit and wondered why, and had to cool down more in the stretch than I should have. Other notes: On Mile 2 Kay leads for probably half of it and, unlike the 2 Mile workout from Walk Slim, she has a microphone this time. Her cueing and instructions are very precise and she's friendly but in a much quieter way than . Speaking of quieter and , she doesn't talk hardly at all during Kay's time up front (in the 2 Mile workout she's constantly yapping in really silly way and driving me nuts). I did not recognize Kay for the longest time either. Her hair is a different color and she seemed much more subdued in this workout. Usually, I follow her because her movements are generally bigger and more enthusiastic but not in this one (not a complaint, just an observation). also has , JoAnn and Carol with her (though I don't think she hardly talks to or especially JoAnn at all which was a little strange) and her niece and niece's friend (from Walk Slim). There's also a guy (Steve?) in the back who I've never seen before. He was often going at a slightly different pace which I appreciated since I'm usually at a different pace! The entire workout is just under 60 minutes and I was able to keep my heart rate in my training zone for over 32 minutes of it, including the warm-up (it takes me about 10 minutes to get my heart rate into the training zone with her workouts too), cool-down and stretch. The stretch was longer than her usual ones, probably a full 5 or 6 minutes and she held the stretches longer. She was doing her own yoga thing in them too which made it interesting and more enjoyable. I burned about 315 calories, which for me is really good. > > I got this AND Get Ripped & Chiseled for my 10 Minute Solution Pilates. I liked that one but reallllly wanted both of these so since the person was offering 2 for 1 (neither of these came in the original cases with the liners... the disks look authentic though...) I took it. I might end up regretting it but I have a lot of pilates stuff I'm not doing because I'm not sure I'm loving it yet and that one I definitely wasn't loving (but was definitely not disliking either). If I end up regretting it I'm sure I'll find something else to trade to get it back some other time. > > Tomorrow I'm not planning on working out. I have to work at 7, grocery shop and then go work at the holiday shop at school from 12- 3. If I get realllly motivated, I'll do something in the evening, but I doubt it. I'm looking forward to next week when my schedule is again, a little different (I just picked up a meeting Tuesday afternoons and I do one Tuesday mornings then have activities to take the kids to in the evenings so Tuesdsays are now official rest days for me) but overall much more open for working out again. > > I hope everyone else is having good workouts today! > > >
Guest guest
Hi , Sorry I'm late on responding to this one - I really like 4 Big Miles, too. Very diverse and fun. Wow, you scored big on this trade! Donna (who really needs to go through her collection and get to trading, too, I am still holding on to my T-Tapps which I know could get me some good deals - I doubt I'm doing them again since they hurt my back last time, and, quite honestly, there is not much fun-factor to endure pain from them - if I'm going to be in pain, I want to have fun getting there!) .. Anyway, I did 's 4 Really Big Miles for the first time (just got it yesterday in a trade on VF) and I LOVED it!! Recent Activity 2 New Members 1 New FilesVisit Your Group Yahoo! Guest guest
Hi Donna, You're not the only one late replying to things! I've been more or less off line as far as messages are concerned lately and I'm starting from the latest ones and moving backwards trying to reply to at least a few! Anyway, thank you, I'm glad to hear you, our pilates queen, say that I scored big even though I traded away a pilates video! :-) That one just had more dread than fun for me so this worked well. I think this is definitely one of 's best workouts too, I'm really glad to have it! Re: worked out! Hi , Sorry I'm late on responding to this one - I really like 4 Big Miles, too. Guest guest
Hi Sara, Thank you!! I bought the original Walk Slim set when it first came out and it only had the 2, 3 and 4 mile walks and the firming workout. I was concerned this one wouldn't be different enough but after reading all the great reviews here I knew I had to get it! I like all the walking workouts in this series and use them much more often than other workouts I have but I don't use the firming one at all. I'm not really crazy about using the band I think (I prefer hand weights). I need to try it again soon and decide what to do with it. I love hearing a "these workouts will get me working out again" story that really paid off!! I cringe when people talk about spending money on videos (especially expensive ones, like Beachbody and Cathe) or gym memberships and then never use them! Thanks for missing me too, that is so sweet to hear!! I'm really hoping this will be a better week. I'm thinking not to be so ambitious as to think I'm going to work out 4-7 times when I haven't managed more than 2 a week in almost a month so as much as I hate to downgrade my own expectations for myself I am going to be realistic and just plan to get at least 3 workouts in this week. My work schedule keeps changing and kid things at school are starting to pile up (none this week that I know of so far at least though) so hopefully I really can get that much in. My dryer just died today so DH is going to get some parts for it tonight and fix what he can but he thinks it needs an igniter so we'll have to call for service on it anyway... ugh. Re: worked out!
