hiya!

i think that i last reported in on monday, so.....

i ended up having to take tuesday off... was experiencing an

allergy attack + asthma...ugh!

i dont know what was in the air, but it was brutal.

on wednesday i was still messed up but was able to squeak in a 40

minute walk with chinook at night.

this morning (thursday), i woke up feeling great!! not tired,

not sneezy and stuffed up, breathing was great!!

i checked my son, who seemed to have had the same symptoms as me,

and he was feeling better as well.

allergies are weird!

so i started my day off with les mill's body pump #53. yes, very

similar to jari love's workouts, but the big differences are for

1. the music (REAL music by the original artists) and 2. the

personalities of the new zealand instructors. jari is so very

serious (and boring, some may say) while the body pump people are

really energetic, encouraging and entertaining. for example,

the song to the bicep track was 'save a horse ride a cowboy' by

big & rich. you cant help but laugh when the instructors grab

cowboy hats, sing along to the song and play their barbell like a

guitar. actually now that i read this, it all sounds hokey but

dont get me wrong, these are solid strength training classes, but

they are fun! i kept my weights light because it has been a long

time since ive used weights. body pump is always high rep

anyway, so you cant go real heavy... so ill say moderate weights

can be used. the instructors, and class, use a barbell and a

single plate (for triceps)... i substituted dumbells and a

weighted ball and that worked just fine. 58 minutes and a

surprising 259 cal burn.

this evening, i power walked with chinook for 60 mins, then

stretched afterward for 10 mins. i decided to wear my HRM

because i have been neglecting it lately. i was surprised to

see a 434 cal burn! whoa, what happened? i was getting only

300 cals on a regular basis before! but, lately, i have been

really working on speed while keeping the 60 min length the same,

and therefore i have been consistently walking further distances.

also i put a bunch of new tunes on my mp3 player and that

really helps alot too! so, wow, great workouts today - some

pleasant surprises - and i feel fabulous (except for sore quads

right now!)

:*carolyn.
