Hey :

It is amazing how many of us did BFL, saw results, and then let life take

those results away. That happened to me as well. I'm 42, my kids are grown

now and I'm doing my second round of challenge this year. What I learned

this last three months, is life will get in the way, plan for it. Make a

priority list of three things/goals. For me one was BFL. What made my life

decisions easier, was people would say, 'can you meet me at 8 on saturday

morning?' I'd say no, I have plans. (I'm the person who drops everything to

help someone) (now gym at 8 on sat trumps everything) and I'd meet them at

10. Little things like that. Also, a really good reward. I had a cruise

planned. (no I don't want cake I have to wear a bathing suit in three

months) etc. not sure what my next reward is but it will be something fun.

Hi,

I've been reading your posts for the last week or so, getting ready

for

the BFL challenge, I started today. I've been loving your posts. I've

very glad I joined the group.

Six years ago I started my first challenge, and did two back to back

and saw great results, then I started a third by my marriage when

downhill quickly so I tanked on that. I started gaining weight before

the divorce and it continued. I'd like to lose at least 35 pounds,

not all in one challenge, of course.

In July I celebrate the five-year anniversary of leaving my (really

awful) marriage and decided to do something wonderful for myself.

Since BFL helped empower me so much when I did it then, I wanted to

try it again. I spent all last week preparing.

When I did my first two challenges, I was a full-time stay-at-home

mom. Now, I work full time and have two teens at home. I am the sole

caregiver of the kids. I am also 48 now instead of the 42-year-old I

used to be.

I am looking for suggestions on staying consistent on the exercise. I

am planning on getting up at 5:30 a.m. and doing free weights at

home -- what I'm doing now -- but am considering joining a gym in two

weeks, after I get back in the habit of working out. Any ideas are

appreciated.

Actually, Thats good. One of the challenges Mark and I are facing is getting our

workouts done, walking the dog, prepping our meals and getting ready. That's a

lot to get done by 7am which is when we have to leave the house.

Walking the dog may seem like an excellent time to do cardio, but as I am in the

beginning stages of BFL, I find that I have to really concentrate on my minute

intervals to make sure I am working ahrder than I was the minute before. Thats

why the machine helps so much. It is too hard for me to guage it myself, the

machine shows that I increased workload and that I am not falling below the set

stride goal.

I find that preplanning the workouts is EXTREMELY helpful. I can't afford the

journal right now, so I created a booklet for each week. On the left is the

meals, and on the right is the workout. I use the options tab in the printing

preferences then options for duplex printing and voila! a little book made from

plain ole 8.5X11 paper. Anyhow, planning before also works as a form of

motivation.

Life happens, I know from what I have read about all these terrific women, that

life definatley happens... but BFL is something that WE CONTROL. No matter what

happens at work, or whether my 10 year old daughter (who, btw is 5'3 " 115pounds,

36B+ bra and  having the hormonal swings of a 15year old) is having PMS, or my

car gets towed, or the dog chews my favorite shoes...or my car gets towed...BFL

is steady as a rock. Something I can count on being the same, something I can

lean on and take comfort in. At first I thought I picked a really crummy time in

which to begin this journey, now I see that the time couldnt have been more

perfect.

taking a deep breath.......

So... I guess what I am saying is. This is a great time to start BFL. Keeping

your workouts consistent means keeping track, staying motivated, and making it a

part of your pampering time.  Yup, its all for YOU!

And I suggest doing cardio on a machine that helps keep us honest until you can

truly measure your output. Luckily for me, my 6,7,8,9 is ACTUALLY 6,7,8,9 on the

machine! When I hit 10, I feel that burning thing in my legs and get a bit

naseous. And I keep my strides above 140.

Hope that helps some!

-Marisol

No. Five kids (only two at home) and a cat keep me busy though.
