Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I've been really busy lately (mostly with work) so I haven't had time to post my workouts for the last few days - here's my summary so far: Tuesday - Yoga Bliss Hips - Ravi/Ana - My memory is foggy on this one - but it was an overall enjoyable Kundalini style yoga routine. It has a nice hip opening sequence - although I think I may have overstretched b/c later in the day I was achey, but it seems to have resolved itself. You do need a high tolerance for " new age " to do these workouts - sometimes I do and sometimes I don't -it really depends on my mood. I was feeling very " Type A " on the morning I did this workout so the new-age stuff wasn't appealing to me -but I know it was just me rather than the workout and I can do this one in a different frame of mind and come away with a different feeling about it. The DVD is well chaptered and does allow for mixing and matching, but I'm not sufficiently familiar with Kundalini to know how to put it all together. I'm guessing if I include warm-up moves/breathing exercises, with an " active " portion followed by a relaxation that would work. I'd definately like to experiment so I can fit this one in as an add-on or for a time crunched day. Wed - Preventions's Personal Trainer with Chris Freytag. This one is just " okay " - I don't find it hard or intense enough. There is alot of variety, but there aren't enough reps and the segments are not long enough. I suppose you could repeat the segments to correct that. The DVD is programmable and includes 2 13 (approx) min cardio routines, a 10 min total body routine, 5 min legs & butt, 5 min shoulders and arms, 5 min chest & back and 5 min abs and back. There is also a separate warm-up and cool down. The workout, as I said is " fair " If I thought I could get a good deal in a trade, I think I would trade this one. The cardio though may make for a nice add-on. Chris Freytag is fine in this one, it just doesn't seem to be an effective workout! For today I woke up feeling kind of yicky. I've had a sinus/ear/cough thing going for a few weeks. I really can't wait for spring to clear this up! I don't feel sick sick, but I'm congested on and off which affects my ear and makes me cough. GRR! My tummy also didn't feel great today. I did, however, after sleeping in an extra hour, do Prevention's Fight Cellulite Fast workout. Freytag leads this one and this is probably the hardest of all the Prevention workouts I have tried. The cardio is interval style - there are 6 segments in each one you do a basic athletic combo at lower impact for 2 1/2 minutes, then you up the impact/intensity for 2 1/2 minutes and for the last minute or so you do a " blast " (these aren't as hard as Cathe's, Gin's or Tony's blasts, though...) Overall though it is a good workout especially if you don't like fancy choreography. If you put your mind into the exercises you can get a good workout out of this one - although probably not much higher than a high intermediate level. I disagree with the inter/adv rating that this one has at Collage. The second part of the workout is a 15 min lower body toning section - basic stuff - lunges, squats, curtsey lunges and plies. Often she adds an uppper body move to for intensity and to work the upper body. I heavied up as much as possible, which meant that I at times had to pause to lower my weights when the compoud moves started - it was kind of a pain to do that - but if I'm doing a straight lunge I can use heavier weights than if I do a lunge with a delt fly - so I figured I'd have to make adjustments to challenge myself. The last part of this segment is floor work. I actually felt really ill during this part of the workout so I didn't enjoy it very much, but I think that was more a function of not feeling well than anything else. I feel a bit better now - at least my tummy isn't upset anymore and the sinus headache seems to be dissipating! Tomorrow I think I'm going to do two Self Magazine workouts back to back (the ones with Ellen Barrett) to round out my magazine week. I'm still thinking about what to do for March. I'm thinking of continuing my " theme " weeks - I'm going to be off work the last week of March and even though I'll be home for part of the time, I know I'm going to miss workouts here and there - so maybe I'll play around with theme weeks and try to get serious in April. I'm thinking of doing a Kathy week or two and a Gin week. Take care!
