Guest guest
I've been doing Eat Stop Eat. It's about the research, benefits and logistics of intermittent fasting. There is no nutrition plan with it, seeing as how it's about not eating. But it's probably not for your husband. You need to be strength training consistently in order to fast without losing lean mass or slowing metabolism. For a non-exerciser and reluctant dieter, starting a serious strength program and going 24 hours without food once or twice a week would probably be a pretty tall order. > I was catching up on a ton of BFL msgs, & went to Google Tosca Reno. > That somehow led me to TT, which led me to Craig's TT Blog (which I had > forgotten about). Guest guest
I've given this a try. Seriously, I didnt think I'd be able to do it as I was born hungry and have stayed that way for 35 years. I only do 20 hour fasts. I get a bit wobbly around the 19 hour mark, so I don't push it! Still, I'm surprised by how... not exactly EASY, but... well, ok, it is. I feel hungry some of the time, but mostly it's fine. Having said that, I just read Skwigg's post about non-weight trainers losing lean mass if you do the ESE thing. I just managed to mess up my back AND my rotator cuff this week, so I'm out of action for pretty much everything. Hopefully short term, but should I stop fasting? I just got the hang of it! aaagh. Guest guest
If you can't do any resistance training at all, you shouldn't do the fasting days on Eat Stop Eat until you're back in action. He underlined that part. :-) If you can work around your injuries, like do seated machine leg exercises, dumbbell arm exercises like curls and kickbacks that don't involve your shoulder joint maybe you could continue, especially if you're only out of commission for a short time. But if you're really wrecked and not able to strength train at all for a few weeks, hold off on fasting. You don't want to lose any of the lean mass you've been working so hard for. Guest guest
Hey Etana: I'm Sheila Today is my first day of the challenge for this year. When you go to family why can't you have roast? How I handled family holidays in the past is allowed veges, (I'd bring to make sure they were available) and then my favorite carb/protein from what was cooked. And two-three hours have another meal with my next favorite carb/protein the same. Or I'd do the free day for that holiday meal. Also, If someone made a homemade goodie, (cheesecake, cookies, etc) Id take my piece and freeze it for free day. Also, I'd make a list of what I craved and on free day would look at the list and make meals from that. Some weeks that was maybe that one cookie, others it was mexican/Chinese, pizza, etc. It was one of the few times in my life I didn't feel guilty about what I ate and it was actually easier eating out because it was chicken or fish and veges. (only half and half for the next meal) > > > > > > > I begin another 12-week challenge today.
