I've heard this works great for some people but for people who cannot be disciplined (they zig too much and have a hard time breaking away to zag!) it is an invitation for disaster. The people who need to be very consistent might be more likely to hit plateaus (though I've never researched that or heard anything about it but it seems to make sense). When they do, the first thing I suggest is shaking up their routine (changing WW food plans, adding/changing exercise, changing foods they eat if they generally eat the same things). I don't usually suggest zig-zagging mostly because I don't think of it (the theory isn't part of WW official teachings) but someone in the group (during a WW meeting) usually comes up with it because it has been successful for them.

Hi,that is interesting about zig-zagging your caloriesand really makes sense. I think Tapprecommends something like that as well - eat clean fora certain number of days then have a "cheat" day tokeep your body guessing. I'm in the same boat aboutcarbs - I love them. I have a hard time w/ proteinmostly b/c there isn't a whole lot of meat I like toeat (I'm pretty picky - I try to get protein frombeans, etc. and from low fat dairy). I really likecertain fats too - nut butters and ice cream. Withice cream, I just don't allow it in the house anymoreand have it as a 'treat' outside of the house once inawhile. I also tend to go in phases with real coke. It just goes well with certain foods!Take care,Donna--- Darcy Ledman <exercise.junkiegmail> wrote:> You're such a great mom Carolyn! I think that having something sweet/salty once in a while is a good idea. I think that Bob Greene's book or Dr. Oz's book or Dr. Phill, one of them says that's a good idea. I don't believe in a "Cheat day" but to have something sweet once in a while.....so that your cravings won't become worse and cause you to eat a whole cake or something. I totally agree. I always counsel WW members to plan for treats if they know they'll want them, never deny yourself completely because, like Jen says, it will only get worse (and you'll eat the entire pint of ice cream instead of a small bowl of it). I like treats a lot! I plan my meals for the day knowing that I'm going to want something sweet at some point (my latest thing is a WW Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream Sundae... oh wow, I couldn't believe it was so good and does so much for my cravings, for WW people it is 3 points). It would usually be my only treat for the day unless I also have some sugar-free jello and fat free Cool whip at some point (0 points for the jello and 0 points for the Cool Whip if you keep it to 2 tablespoons) and I try to eat very healthy the rest of the day (not to make up for my treat since it isn't bad but just because I want to for my health).
