I just researched this plan at amazon.com and other sites on the web. 1. I imagine you lose weight, you're eating practically no calories / day... Unless you overdo on fruit and beans... I didn't see any fish, meat, dairy, eggs, avocado, and only a few nuts allowable the first 6 weeks. It seems to be a plan of vegies, some fruits, beans, and fats 2. My biggest concern in trying this, is that Body for Life, and the protein/carb balance, has eliminated my cravings and hunger, while allowing me to eat somewhat normally, if cleanly. I really get hungry and unsatisified cravings when I don't eat protein. Or when I eat an only carb meal, I get edgy and hungry and craving. I can't see having that blended spinach-fruits drink in the morning and not just craving hungry. That said, it's still interesting, and VERY TEMPTING to see the huge amounts some people are losing quickly. It's not that far off from the huge amount of vegies I'm now eating. I believe i will buy the book and read it. I did join the yahoo group; thanks for that link. Perhaps I can modify what I'm now doing with his philosophy in mind. Perhaps I will try it for 6 weeks. Too bad I just broiled and froze two $20-packages of salmon from COSTCO into meal-sized portions.... Dr. Fuhrman doesn't even like fish!!! And I've heard tofu is not really so good for American women, (estrogen) how it's raised or something... I don't mean to sound negative about it, but I have been so happy with BFL food; I hesitate to eliminate my proteins [chicken, fish, dairy, eggs], espec since I am now eating 3-4 oz portions, not the 16 oz steaks I used to eat! Thanks to every one for such great contributions on this topic. Etana
Guest guest
Etana: I'm with ya on the last survivor on an island part. I think if i was on the show survivor, I'd be the only fat one at the end of the show. Never forget that the scale may not be moving but you are healthier just by still working out and eating healthy. Also, there may be internal changes taking place like less fat around organs that is hard to see. I lost 17 lbs on bfl this year. But before that, I only ever lost 12 pounds in the three months on bfl or less. How tall are you? What is your body fat percentage? (if you are at a lower body fat you wouldn't be able to lose weight as fast) I wouldn't go below 1500-1800 total a day, As an athlete you need those. Add in some Flax oil. (something about it making brown fat work more effectivaly and that the brown fat will burn fat). Make sure you are drinking a enough water. For a nutritionist, I'd look for a gym in my area that has people that do BFL. Even call a gym and ask for a recommendation. Try sticking to basic carbs like brown rice, fruit, sweet potatoes, and oatmeal and see what happens. I personally can't lose weight unless I do cardio every day. 30 mins some days and 1 hour others. That is the BFL thing I do differently.
