Guest guest
Hello! I'm really fired up about BLF, and I'm only in my first week. But things have already come up! Tuesday was family dinner for New Years, so we made that our free day. But now, Sunday is dinner with guests, and everyone wants fried chicken and apple pie. Yesterday I never had time to do my cardio, and I didn't even drink half my water. Today, I still haven't done my upper body. Argh!!! I want to do this, and my eating is going great. Why am I already having issues in week one? The good news is that I want to just ignore the parts I've already messed up and move on. - Bobbi
Guest guest
You're going to have issues every week from now on. That's normal, not some kind of weird exception. Just go with it. :-) Last week your free day was on Tuesday, this week it's on Sunday. It's ok to move the thing. Just make sure you only take one a week. If you did some workouts this week and ate much better than normal, you're off to a good start. Next week will be even better, just stay on it. > Hello! > I'm really fired up about BLF, and I'm only in my first week. But > things have already come up! Guest guest
I hate this time of year in the gym, but I love this time of year on this board. For those of us who have been here a while, we get to hear Skwigg¹s perspective on nearly everything, and you¹ll learn, like we know, sometimes that¹s just what we need to hear. Body for Life is a way of life. It¹s not a diet or a this or a that. It¹s how you can live your life for the rest of your life. When I first started, my free days were epic and I fought to stay on the eating portion. Several years later, Body for Life is how I eat. I have a slight advantage in that I am a pancreas patient so I can¹t eat anything fried without paying a hefty price, and sugar has to be in moderation or I¹m sick as a dog. I can¹t drink too much and shouldn¹t touch hard alcohol. But I had to learn all of that too. In my case, lot of lot of folks who are trying to change their lives, if I didn¹t stop, I was going to die. Our nurses on here can tell you that dying from pancreatitis sucks, big time. If I didn¹t die, I was on the fast path to diabetes. Once you have that, your death certificate invariably says ³complications of diabetes² as either a cause or contributing factor. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most painful cancers. I was 30 and not ready for this. I fought for years to get things in order, and I found the one thing that keeps me steady Eddy is Body for Life. I¹m sure many of you have seen the new Weight Watcher¹s commercial where they talk about losing weight and staying in your house and how they teach you to go out to restaurants, because that¹s how we live. I thought, ³that¹s so true². I¹m also lucky that pizza and Chinese makes me sick. So I never get around the two biggest culprits. But we are going to run into little minefields every single day. How we handle these minefields dictates our success. The first week, you may get your butt kicked, the next week, you¹ll know to avoid the break room on Friday because there¹s always donuts on Friday. You¹ll know that Susie has chocolate at her desk so don¹t go over there, you¹ll know that The House of Woo has nothing on the menu that¹s good for you and you¹ll either beg off or come up with a better place to eat. When I read Bobbi¹s email and saw the part with the fried chicken and apple pie it reminded me of the Biggest Loser (my favorite guilty pleasure) this week. They¹re talking with Jillian and she says ³Not only do I have to get these people in shape, and there¹s no teams, but they brought their enablers with them². This week is probably too early for you, but as you get going on the program, you¹ll be able to cook things that are much better for everyone and taste just as good. For Sunday, if you¹re the cook, you can bake or saute your chicken. I take a chicken breast, dip it in egg whites, dust it lightly with a little bit of bread crumbs and parmesan (very little like no more than a tablespoon) and put it into a non-stick pan sprayed with olive oil or put it in a cast iron pan sprayed with olive oil and bake at 350 for 12 minutes per side and have that for myself. I¹d have one piece of breast meat and tear off the skin and put it on another plate away from you so you won¹t be tempted to eat it. Then have some salad and a roll, skip the apple pie and tell myself I did a really good job that day. > You're going to have issues every week from now on. Guest guest
I'm a great planner. I plan the entire week - in my BFL Success Journal. That works great for me. I can't do my workouts first thing in the morning. My baby wakes me up at 6:30ish in the mornings. Sorry, but I don't really want to get up earlier than that. I try to wait until nap time. If not, I do it at night when both kids (8 months & 3 years) are in bed. I love what Dr Val said. She said its a way of life. If I mess up one day, its not really going to matter in the whole big picture. I will just take it one day at a time (using my journal, of course). I'm still excited!!! - Bobbi > > > > Hello! > > I'm really fired up about BLF, and I'm only in my first week. But > > things have already come up!
