Guest guest
This morning I woke up feeling better and my DH even noticed that I looked like I felt better so I decided it was worthwhile to try a workout. I'm still coughing but I got a little more sleep last night I think and I'm not coughing nearly as much this morning. I pulled out my new Kathy Kaehler (the one I picked up at Target a few weeks ago) and just wanted a 30 minute workout so I did the Cardio1, Cardio2 and Stretching workouts from the Total Body Workout disc. Each is 10 minutes long. I had previewed this and knew it looked like a decent workout but I was still expecting for it to be pretty light. Wrong! Maybe it was because of the cough and not working out for a week but I really got a good workout from this! She uses hand weights in Cardio1 so I started with 5s, like I do with workouts when I'm trying to pump up the intensity. After just a few minutes I needed my 3s and wondered at times if those were too much too. She does a lot of upper body work while moving quickly on the cardio. The weights made it intense (84-88% of max HR through most of the 10 minutes) and also, because of the weight I was using, really threw off my timing a lot. I could not move my arms fast enough to keep up with her so I just did it at my own pace and it was plenty fast enough. I burned 60 calories in 10 minutes which is right up there with some of my other 10 minute workouts, including some of Dozois' Carb Burner workouts. Best of all, I did not get overly tired and did not cough during it (at least not that I remember)! Cardio2 is an interval workout though she doesn't announce that at all but you can definitely feel the up and down efforts. No weights with this one, it moves fast. I didn't intend to work as hard as I did during this one (91% of max HR during one interval) but I did fine and, an hour later, I feel really good now. I liked how she has you start off doing movements with no arms and then adds the arms after you've had some practice without them then she really jacks up the pace and intensity of the movements. Both workouts were very simple in terms of movements. Both are walking-based though in Cardio2 most of it is higher impact moves (variations on jumping jacks, running in place and other movements). She doesn't discuss modifications but you can easily modify all of them to lower impact. I was okay with the high impact so stuck with that throughout. Her cueing is very good but the music is very forgettable. The stretch workout was very good too. You hold the stretches decently long and she had some interesting variations, all standing. All of the workouts have a message that pops up at the 5 minute mark and I think at the 1 minute mark too. With all 3 workouts combined I burned over 160 calories which really surprised me especially because I just didn't expect to do much at all today but I'll take it. I might do the Sculpting Legs, Sculpting Arms, Sculpting Core and Stretching workouts from this same disc tomorrow if I think I'll have time. I thought I'd have workers here already doing the roof and other things but so far nobody's here, not sure what time they're planning tomorrow but will find out and plan my workout accordingly (they just called, apparently they're lost, oops). Kathy only cues and says a few encouraging phrases, other than that there is no instruction and no chatter at all. It will be interesting to see if she does form pointers and instruction for the sculpting sections. I previewed them but didn't pay much attention to that aspect then. It feels really good to have worked out again and especially to just be feeling better. I think the Allegra is exactly what I needed, I wished I'd gone to the doc years ago about these problems, I just thought I had to live with them but I guess not (this seems to be the worst it has been in a long time though). Will try to slowly catch up with group postings and emails soon. I have about 350 postings just to look through! :-0 I missed you all though! Guest guest
Hi , I'm glad you are feeling better. I've done quite a bit of exercising this week but not as much as I wanted to because of a new job assignment I started on Tuesday. The job is very early in the morning (maybe not to some of you but it is to me) and I'm NOT a morning person. I've worked mostly nights and afternoons so having to be at work by 7:45am is HARD for me. Anyway, don't over do it, I don't want you to relapse! I will be joining you all doing exercise videos very soon.
