Guest guest
Hi , well they (Red Wings) lost again today! I WOULD skip anything to see either the Wings or the Tigers so I was very happy to go especially for FREE. Have you been to a Wings game this year? They need to get a goal scorer and a tough guy like McCarty back again so crack some heads together. Dingo is Deaf bingo but it isn't like regular bingo. They use a deck of playing cards (52 cards) and 4 people play together in a group. The person who deals (they take turns) deals out all of the cards then what you do is put the cards face up on the table with all of the hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades together. A person stands in front of the room with a board that has each suit labeled and each card labeled. Here is what it looks like Ace 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Jack Queen King Hearts Clubs Diamonds Spades So after the cards (at the front) are shuffled the person draws a card then pins it up on the board. If you have that card then you turn it face down. When you have one card left you raise your hand with the card and if they call that card you win! They have envelopes with money and you pick one. People won anywhere between 15 to 55 dollars. I didn't win but came close! I learned sign language because when I first went to Madonna there were tons of Deaf people there so I took a class. After that I met more Deaf people and became good friends with (Deaf girl from London, Ont. Canada.) I wasn't sure what to major in at that time (I was 19 years old) I ended up majoring in computers. By the time I graduated I couldn't find a job so after looking for a while I went back to Madonna and ended up graduating with a Sign Language Studies/Interpreting degree in 1996. Long story, made short, I learned sign language (ASL - American Sign Language) so that I could talk to my Deaf friends. I decided to become an interpreter when I went back to Madonna and found that "hey, I'm pretty good at this!" and I LOVE it! Jen nancydewolf wrote: How totally cool you go to go to a Wings game FREE! I'd skip just about anything for that! We went to see the Plymouth Whalers yesterday... quite a difference in the venue and quality of play (and price) but still very fun. Okay... what is Dingo? A deaf version of Bingo? How is it different? And since we're off-topic anyway, how did you get into being a sign language interpreter? It is wonderful that it keeps you so busy but I look forward to hearing about your SI6, P90 and swimming workouts too! :-) Re: Re: Jen's Weigh-In for Sunday 2/17/08 Thanks Stacey, I was going to go swimming Friday and Saturday then I woman I'm teaching sign language to invited me to a Red Wings game for FREE Friday night so I did that instead.....Red Wings LOST 5th straight game it was AWFUL but at least I got to see a game and didn't cost me anything. Yesterday I had a busy day planned so I decided to skip it. I tutored students from 12 to 4pm, met with another interpreter to practice from 4 to 5pm, went out to eat then went to the Detorit Assoc. of the Deaf to play Dingo from 6 to 11:30pm! I was exhausted when I got home, obviously. I've been bad this week...I didn't exercise or eat very good all week. I've decided that I'm going to work in a rest day, which will be Wednesday because that is my busiest day. I'll try that this week and see how it goes. I really want to finish my Ramp It Up tape so that I can go on to Burn It Up.> > Jen>
