Found this Sara, explains the point of HFA from someone genuinely on the spectrum who does not agree with the ND movement, think the people at NAS should read it.

Scroll down to Neurodiversity:just say no

The rest of his website is interesting too, the piece about why he thinks Gates and Einstein were not autistic is worth a read.

This is really interesting and touching. I found myself wanting to post

a comment to cheer him up. Saying that Gates is on the spectrum is

slanderous. I find myself wanting to say " personally insulting " to

someone with sufficient empathy to give away their fortune to unhappy

and ill people whom they have never met, but I don't want to upset

anyone. This maybe the problem that the NAS finds itself in.

Hi

Vicky, I’ve read it and it’s good. I’ve never read stuff like

that before. i’ll keep

this too in case I need it. i

think it’s important to say to NAS though that people who don’t

want treatment are perfectly entitled not to have it (though God know where all

these people are that are trying to treat them – I wish they’d come

and help Tom!) as long as they don’t impose their views on others.

I read statistics somewhere that a substantial proportion of peoplewith asperger's are not employed as adults (although for the life ofme now I can't find the website - you will probably know the answer tothis).

>>It was the NAS website............
