Guest guest
Okay, I did it... I worked through the instructional workout for the first time in a long time. I think my problem with it is the speed. I'm focusing on keeping my glutes tight, my abs tight, my triceps tight, etc. and trying to kick or punch with good form and as fast as he is, especially on the double time sections. I was picturing , absolutely horrified, watching me trying to do the front to back kicks. I was also wishing she or someone else who knew better than me was with me, correcting my form! I wasn't even trying to get my legs up high, just trying to stay balanced and not hurt myself! I notice he doesn't instruct very carefully on form, just emphasizes tightening muscles. I think I'll get his book, The Tae Bo Way (I think that's the right title) when I'm at the library Thursday. I saw it there last week. That might help. My back was bothering me a little bit before I started and now it is bothering me more. I had a little bit of extra time when I was done so I watched the Basic Workout and the 8 Minute Workout. I've had them for a long time but have never even looked at them before (I have a few other tae bo workouts I haven't looked at either and want to now to see what they're like). I found it very interesting and reassuring that the front-back kick combination in the instructional tape isn't even part of either of those workouts. I liked the fact that both were primarily composed of drills of only one type of move at a time, very few combination moves. That gives me hope that I can practice a particular move, even if I don't get in every rep because they are is moving faster than I can, and eventually get in all the reps. I will also make sure I have a chair nearby for some of the kicks. If I'm not worried about keeping my balance I can keep my overall form cleaner. The basic workout actually looked more simple than the instructional video because of the lack of combinations but it was fast and the 8 minute workout looked really fast. It looks, if I can get the form and speed down, much easier and more my type of workout than Turbo Jam (sorry and TJ fans). Okay, I've talked myself into it. I'm not ready to give up on this yet. Stay tuned, I might try this instructional workout again soon and schedule the Basic Workout too. I burned 99 calories just doing the instructional video which is about 28 minutes and a lot of the time you're standing still as he's explaining things or doing things at very slow speeds trying to learn a particular move. If I can burn 100 calories like that I can only imagine what a real workout could do (without driving me nuts with combinations I can't follow too)! I have Kickboxing for Dummies, TJ Learn & Burn, Kathy 's kickboxing workout, plus a bunch of Tae Bo workouts... I'm sensing another theme week possibly for this month... Okay Sara, how did it go for you????

Guest guest
Great job !I think the workout Donna is referring to is Cardio Kickboxing. I like that workout because I think it's hard enough, and yet it is very basic and short. Just 25 minutes, I believe. Darcy Okay, I did it...
