Guest guest
Okay, I feel like this is a weird question, but here goes. How long for my metabolism to adjust (speed up) to this new way of eating? My body is used to being starved and taking in very few calories. I am now eating the BFL way, 6 times a day, approximately 1200-1400 calories a day. I am gaining weight. I expected that, as I am eating a lot more than I am used to. So, I am okay with that, but does anyone have any idea how long I should expect my weight to keep going up before it realizes that I am no longer starving? I know this is the better way to eat/live. I just would like to have some sort of idea of how long this will last (the gaining part). I mean, 6 days, 6 weeks, 6 months? Thank you, Miaja**
Guest guest
Every person and situation is so different that there's no set answer on that one. I can tell you that if you're training hard and only averaging 1200-1400 calories per day, you're not going to keep gaining for long, and what you are gaining is likely muscle, water, and glycogen - not body fat. Know what I'm saying? You're not going to mysteriously gain loads of fat by eating better and training smarter. So, don't be concerned if the scale is going up a little at first. Most people who chronically undereat have very little lean mass, putting back some lean muscle is the first step to turning metabolism around, and that will show up on the scale. You should start seeing some positive changes within a few weeks. Not necessarily scale weight loss, but firmer muscles, better definition, clothes fitting better, appetite increasing. The only thing you might have to watch out for with a slowed metabolism is going totally crazy on free day. A bit of an overfeed every week is necessary in order to convince your body there's no famine, but you don't want to take it SO over the top that you're completely undoing any deficit you may have created in the week before. That's not easy to do, so don't get overly paranoid. Just be aware and give it time. I'm guessing it took a little longer than 6 days or 6 weeks or even 6 months to get yourself into a starvation predicament, so it may take longer than that to totally come out of it and be eating at the calorie level of a healthy athlete instead of a dieter. It's totally worth it though! Hang in there and you'll be amazed at the positive changes. > Okay, I feel like this is a weird question, but here goes.
