Guest guest
Guess what! I can finally do pushups!! This is a huge deal for me because a year ago at this time, I was 35 lbs heavier & 4 sizes larger. I couldn't do even ONE pushup. I've been doing bent knee pushups, but finally got brave enough to try regular pushups a couple of days ago. Imagine my surprise when I was able to do several of them! Today at the gym I was able to do 5 good ones for my warmup. The TT warmup calls for 10 pushups, but hey, I figure 5 is good for someone who couldn't even do one previously! I figured out the trick to pushups is that it's not just an exercise for arms, but rather one for the whole body with emphasis on the arms & abs. I " JUST " realised that if I tense my abs & all of the muscles in my legs, that helps me be able to push myself back up after lowering. Before I never paid attention to the rest of my body; instead, I relied on mainly arm muscle to bring me back up (which obviously wasn't happening in my case!). I'm just NOW getting that all of the exercises (whether it be for BFL, TT, or whatever other program) really requires tensing (or bracing) all of the body's major muscles in order to get the best benefit. Craig mentions all the time about bracing the abs during exercises, but somehow that little tidbit kind of sailed over my head. I think he should modify it to include bracing all of the main muscles, not just the abs. It also helps that now that my muscles are more developed (even though still buried underneath a generous layer of fat), I can locate & tighten them much more easily.
