Hi,

My hubby got me the BfL for Women book for Christmas. He should

be throttled ;) (in his defense, he also got himself the original BfL).

For more than 20 years I was a gym rat, plus I like to hike, bike, etc.

Three years ago I got married, and things went down hill :) At 45

I'm beginning to get that middle-aged mush despite my efforts so

here I am starting a challenge for the new year.

I'm lucky to have some workout equipment set up in our garage --

nordic track, weight bench with some light adjustable hand weights,

a gold's gym weight machine, rowing machine, and a bike trainer.

The bike trainer isn't set up yet this year :) My routine since it got

too cold to bike to work and walk in the mornings has been mostly

the nordic track and weight training.

Yesterday was the first day of my challenge. Things went well

because we went cross country skiing for 2.5 hours and my

GPS/heart rate monitor tells me I burned 930 calories.

Unfortunately, as a result, the sensible meals I had yesterday have

left me feeling at a " deficit " today. Yesterday was cereal/soy milk &

coffee for bfast, banana as a snack, 1 slice WH bread with turkey

and carrot sticks for lunch, almonds & frozen cranberry juice for

snack, and black-eyed peas, jasmine rice, yams, and chard for

dinner (yes, I know jasmine rice and yams are not the best choices

as far as carbs go, but there you have it...).

I went to bed starved, I woke up starved, and I'm still feeling starved

after my breakfast of 1 cup cereal/1cup soy milk and coffee.

Hopefully, things begin to improve :) My workout this morning was

10 minutes on the nordic track for warm-up, 30 minutes of lower

body, and 3 minutes of sit ups.

I've got a banana for a morning snack, NF plain yogurt/fruit & carrot

sticks for lunch, and some almonds for a snack. I was a fish

vegetarian for 20 years, but have recently begun to eat a little meat -

- mostly just a nice steak on special occasions (and we have left-

over turkey from the holidays, thus, the turkey yesterday).

Happy NY all,

Dana
