Saying that Gates is on the spectrum is slanderous. This maybe the problem that the NAS finds itself in. *Isnt something only slanderous only if it is a false comment or said about them to affect thier reputation? is > Sally

I've never read stuff like that before. i'll keep this too in case I need it. i think it's important to say to NAS though that people who don't want treatment are perfectly entitled not to have it (though God know where all these people are that are trying to treat them - I wish they'd come and help Tom!) as long as they don't impose their views on others. * totally agree there, also people who wish to have treatment should at least be offered heavy metal testing on the NHS. is
Guest guest
It is. I'm afraid that's what I mean is. Purpose is not required -- slander affects someone's reputation for the worse. I'm afraid most people would think that being said to be on the spectrum affected most people's reputation for the worse. So, said about someone about whom there is no evidence to suggest that it is true, it is slanderous. Sally atrekkie22 wrote: > > Hello > > > > > This is really interesting and touching. Guest guest
is, I've been thinking about this today, and what I would think if Bill Gates announced himself, today, that he has asperger's. I don't think I would I would think less of him at all - he is who he is (and more importantly, he does what he does) whether the asperger's label is correctly attached to him or not. However, I do think it's specious for people with a condition to diagnose others with it from afar. Most importantly, I think (was it Sara who said this whole way of thinking was not helpful as teachers expecting Bill Gates but encountering her son were going to be surprised?) it is very misleading, and it conveys a sort of desperation for positive affiliation. I read statistics somewhere that a substantial proportion of people with asperger's are not employed as adults (although for the life of me now I can't find the website - you will probably know the answer to this). That's a far cry from Bill Gates. I think it would be better to wait for successful adults who *have* been diagnosed as aspergerians to come forward and demonstrate to the world that being an aspie can mean many different things than to recruit people who have not been diagnosed, or who wish to keep any diagnosis private. > > *Isnt something only slanderous only if it is a false comment or said > > about them to affect thier reputation? > > > > is > > > Sally > >
