hi pinky! so sorry for this late reply... we did go skating as

a family a week ago (on friday the 5th).

it was ok, despite both dh and i not being on ice skates for, oh,

35 years!

this was skating in an indoor rink... i like the indoor rink

better than an outdoor one because the indoor rink has sides that

you can hang on to, or smash in to, etc... lol

anyway, dh gets his skates on, hops on the ice and skates around

like he last did it yesterday....grrrr!

i started out very rusty, clung to the sides for about 5 times

around. then i found that it was coming back to me and i could

skate on my own and i eventually got going really well !! i

made it for 45 mins, and then, well, i guess that i got too

over-confident, or i lost my concentration, i dont really know

what happened... but i took a bad fall :( i actually hit the

back of my head on the ice and i was out of commission for three

days with a headache and a really sore neck and shoulders

(normally these are sore spots for me, but i was surprised that

my neck muscles hurt so much, and all around the front of my neck

as well as the back). it seems that the extra padding that i

have on my butt saved that area from injury.

oh well... im all recovered now, but i will definitely skate

alot slower and stick close to the walls from here on out! im

kind of scared of falling again and really messing myself up.

hopefully by the end of the winter, i will be good on my skates

again.

:*carolyn.

I didn't see 's original message but was reading this thinking, never skated on outdoor rink, how? And then I remembered it doesn't snow there like it does here! I grew up near a pond and the people who lived next door to it (and owned it) allowed us to ice skate on it all the time in the winter.

You had a really scary fall, Carolyn!! I haven't been on ice skates in years but I rollerbladed for the first time a few months ago and it seemed really natural after just a few minutes so I think I'd be okay on ice skates again but then again, the ice is a lot faster surface than a rollerskating rink so who knows! I keep looking for free skates in my size on freecycle, I'd love to go again. I took ice skating lesson when I was young and got to a point where I would have started competition skating and that's when my lessons ended. Not a big deal though, I didn't really want to do competitions, just have fun. I wasn't anywhere near graceful enough for competitions anyway I realize now! I had the athleticism but that's where it ended!

Anyway, come to Michigan sometime , we'll find you some outdoor rinks to skate at. One of my favorites when I was younger was skating at Hart Plaza in Detroit, right next to the Detroit River. You can look across the river and see Windsor, Canada! I haven't done it in oh so many years and I don't even know if there is still a rink there (I know there's a newer one downtown that I haven't been to yet though that is also supposed to be really nice).

Oh my Carolyn! I am glad you are okay now. Ice is terribly unforgiving! I hope your next skating adventure is a lot safer!

Hi Carolyn,

Oh, no - so sorry to hear about your injury! I'm glad you're feeling

better already.

I like ice skating, even though I've only gone a handful of times in

my life! I'm not real good on them, and am usually guaranteed at

least one wipe out! But it's never been a serious fall, just some

bumps and bruises.

The mice ate my skates out in the garage, so I'll have to get some

more if we decided to go again sometime. My DH is like yours -

hadn't been on skates in years and years, but you'd never know it to

see him skate. He's a good helper for me, though, LOL!

Klutzy,

Sara

Ow! That's smarts, Cola Pop! I could totally see myself doing the

exact same thing. Hope your noggin is feeling better now!

We have ice here and you could probably skate on the streets if you

wanted, though I doubt the surface would be flat and smoothe like a

rink. I'm better on 4 wheel roller skates (I'm not good with Rollerblades)

Hugs,
