Guest guest
Hi Everyone, My back is slowly coming around - I think I know what i did to mess it up - I think I was a little overzealous w/ some of the T-Tapp moves and I overstretched my muscles - especially on my right side - which is my tight/bunched up side, my left side (my more painful side when this all began, is fine). I will try T-Tapp again at some point, b/c it always helped before, but I will be much more careful with the stretching aspects of the method. For the next couple of weeks though I'm sticking with what I know works for me for right now (pilates, bike, tm, leslie, gentle yoga) and then I'll "experiment" again with some other stuff (thinking of trying different types of lower impact cardio). I was thinking of giving some of my classical stretch DVDs a try, also - those are a nice blend of stretching and light toning/strengthening. From what I have read from those w/ back trouble,Classical Stretch is helpful. (though I'm beginning to see that it is all really very individual) Anyway, for today I stuck w/ some gentle Pilates. I did Gaiam's AM Pilates routine w/ Jillian Hessel (sp?) - it starts seated w/ some postural awareness, gentle stretching, then moves on to some matwork and then finally a standing posture section. Felt good to get everything moving and back in alignment. I followed that up w/ Ana Caban's Beginning Mat Work - again, classical mat work, good to get everything moving, get the core fired up and get things lengthened and aligned. I received my Power Systems catalog the other day and they have some neat Pilates tools - something called the Pilates Stick - a device you stick in a door to create a reformer-like experience. Here's the link: http://www.power-systems.com/p-4098-pilates-stick-kit.aspx And a simpler version: http://www.power-systems.com/p-3091-pilates-reform-bar.aspx And, another toy: http://www.power-systems.com/p-2952-pilates-versa-tube.aspx The Pilates Stick has me intrigued - but I'm not sure where i could set it up in my workout area - I do have a door - but it is an outdoor door - I wonder if it would fit in that? I like the idea of the Supreme Pilates machine, too, but that is pricey. The Pilates Stick also seems a bit pricey and looks like somehting one can attempt to make themselves. I figure Pilates is going to be a staple in my routine so I may as well make it interesting! Of course, I already have a ring, bands and light balls - so perhaps I should work on using them first! LOL! Take care, Donna

Guest guest
Hi Kassia, My back is just this chronic thing - it seriously has bothered me on and off for 20 years (since I was in college!) It has definately gotten worse over the last several years which is finally what prompted me to do something about it. I think I just have bad alignment and weakness in my lower back/hip area. The diagnosis I had from the chiro listed scoliosis. I've never been told I had it before, and, from what I understand, it does'nt always produce symptoms, but I wonder if that just has something in general to do with my weakness there? The gadgets do look like fun. I'm not sure about the Pilates Stick b/c of the whole door set up (it would be hard for me to find a place for it and still use a dvd with it), but I like that Reformer Stick - and the price point is better. I think gaiam is coming out with something like that other contraption - the big "figure 8" tubing w/ the loops for your hands and feet. Depending on b/day money I may give that Reformer Stick a try. I was going to see if I had enough for ChaLEAN extreme - but realistically I won't be able to do those workouts for awhile - I'm thinking at least a year (my plan is to really start slowly with the weights and really do basic workouts and gradually go from there) - so I may as well get something I can use now. I was also thinking of getting the Classic Stretch 2007 TV series for 26 Classical Stretch workouts - of course, this all depends on how much $$$ I get for my b'day (I'm greedy, aren't it?) DH's b-day is the day before mine and I know he has his b'day money spent already, too. I"m going to try to save maybe half of it towards Xmas shopping. The economy has me freaked out enough to be cautious this year. (and, quite frankly, as you all know, I have more than enough workout wise to keep me busy for a LONG time!) Take care!Donna Subject: Re: Thurs - PilatesTo: exercisevideos Date: Thursday, October 9, 2008, 7:23 AM morning donna,i haven't done that am/pm pilates dvd in a while. gotta remember to maybe throw that in somewhere. i like the ideas of the pilates gadgets just so expensive although i can see that reformer stick as a handy tool. to bad no more gadget buying here LOL.great job, is your back getting better? i think i was away when you hurt yourself so i don't know the details but hope you are getting better. kassia
