hiya - this morning i walked chinook for 70 mins... 380 cals... yay!

it was a nice day... quite mild, dry and no wind. almost warm

enough to ride my bike! wow, how weird for january. now it has

turned back to cold and windy though :(

this evening i did 'self: trim & tone fast' with kim spreen. 58

mins, 288 cals. this is a toning workout that is split into a

bunch of small segments... light cardio warmup, lower body

(unweighted), back, chest, arms & shoulders, core and cooldown

stretches. these were all 5-6 minutes long and went by very fast!

the segments use light weights (i used 5 lbs) because kim combos

the exercises (so you are doing biceps with shoulders, and back with

triceps, for example). why do instructors do that??? it gets a

bit annoying because i can use heavier weight for biceps and back

than i can for shoulders and triceps, so it feels like parts of my

body are getting cheated. there is also a 16 minute full body

segment during which kim compounds the upper and lower body and

since this was the last segment before the cooldown, i found it to

be challenging. the reps are moderate to high... the combos and

compounding increase the difficulty and therefore the burn factor.

the exercises mostly flow together well and there are some unique

moves with variety in exercises and tempos. i liked that the core

segment was not all crunches done on your back on the floor. the

scenery is lovely! kim is excellent at cueing and is calm and

personable. the backgrounders look great and follow along nicely.

i recall that the music was ok... some standard instrumental

workout music. the dvd is programmable so you can pick and choose

the segments you want and play them in any order. upper

intermediate level, imo, and recommended!

:*carolyn.
