Guest guest
Hi! I was in bed at 7:15 last night and asleep by 8 - I slept until DD got up at 5 (She's back on that kick, she has been going to bed by 7, but I wish I could get her to stay up until 8 and get up at 6 instead - I guess that will come eventually when the time changes??!! It isn't too bad b/c now she is old enough to entertain herself/watch a movie while I workout -so it isn't bad). Anyway, when she got up I felt like I was well enough to do a workout so after setting her up with a snack and a movie I did Dance the Chakras by Ana Brett/Ravi Singh. The first part of the DVD is a Kundalini yoga practice - I don't have a whole lot of experience with this type of yoga but it seemed to be in line with what I have seen before! It was good and " different " from the yoga I normally do. With Kundalini I always feel very awake. I do admit, that for a type-A personality like mine, it is a bit of a culture shock now and again - but I do enjoy the change of pace and it probably is just what my Type A self needs every now and again. The second half of the DVD is more of a free-form dance section - Ana is on-screen (as she always is) and both she and Ravi provide cues via voice-over). In this section Ana does give general direction on how to move, but it really is a " put your own style/heart " into it kinda thing. At the end there is relaxation and chanting. I liked it for its difference from what I normally do - although, as I said, my rigid-Type A self does have trouble adjusting at times to these very new-agey styles - but, it is probably somethingt that is good for me to do once in awhile. It is one that I will need to do ALONE because I'm sure there would be plenty of comments from the peanut gallery (DH) on this one! He's even more type A than me! Between this one and the Yoga Beauty Body, I think I liked Yoga Beauty Body better as it was more straightforward Kundalini - but this one is nice and versatile - it is well chaptered and even has a " matrix " to build your own practice. The straight Kundalini yoga part is 30 minutes, so it would be good to do on a time crunched day. Overall, I really like the Ana and Ravi DVDs and I'm happy to have re-discovered Kundalini as an option for yoga. Oh, I think I have found the biggest source of my back woes - it is INACTIVITY. Since I was sick I took two rest days and on the first day my back felt great, by yesterday, it was so tight - same for today. I did primary back stretch twice this morning and I'm hopeful that the Kundalini yoga helped to stretch it out, too. I guess it is good that I have one more reason to keep working out - keep that back pain away. And, now that I'm feeling better, I'm thinking I can suck it up and finish P90X this month. I think I only have 16 workouts left to do. That isn't bad.....And, it will give me time to think about what I want to start doing in February. Take care!
