Guest guest
, Why do you suggest that it is not accurate? Are you suggesting that air displacement as a means of measuring bodyfat is not accurate? Have you (or any other listmembers) come across any comparative studies between body composition measurement techniques? Guest guest
There are a number of published studies comparing the Bod Pod to hydrostatic weighing and DEXA. Do a Medline search for air displacement plethysmography and you should be able to find this research. One of my friends presented a study at least year's ACSM that showed that the Bod Pod overpredicted body fat %'s in athletic populations. Guest guest
Regarding the Bod Pod, we (Texas A & M University) was loaned one from their company with the hope that we would purchase one. We tested our athletes first with the Bod Pod, then immediately into the hydrostatic weighing tank....the results were very disappointing. Some athletes readings were pretty close, others were off tremendously. This result occurred on both male and female, lean and not so lean. We couldn't really find a pattern at all. All the subjects were experienced with the hydrostatic weighing procedures and had numerous dunkings during their career here. Needless to say the Bod Pod people weren't very happy with our results. They sent someone down to answer our questions....bottom line, we felt we wouldn't spend so much money for something not very accurate (in our opinion). If you want specific info on our test results, I can see if our physiology professor next door in the lab still has the results. Someone wants to bring it to our club, and I have heard from some trainers that it is very inaccurate. I thought someone out there might have some research on the product. * Don't forget to sign all letters with full name and city of residence if you wish them to be published! Guest guest
Hi Andy A study appearing in the latest edition of the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research 16(4):599-605 by Vescovi et al indicated that skinfolds were more accurate than the Bod Pod in a population of College Female Athletes. The study indicated that gender and body composition bias may exist in the Bod Pod. Best wishes! Guest guest
A local health establishment is offering a contest and a " before " and " after " Bod Pod measurement is included in the $30 entry fee. Anyone know how accurate these are? I thought it sounded worth the $30 (I think the usual fee for one Bod Pod measurement is $55)...
