Guest guest
Great questions, Donna! As a veteran declutterer and fellow workout video collector too (as in collects too much and needs to continually declutter) I'd say only keep the ones you know you really enjoy and that are the most likely ones you'll use. You'll feel good just seeing those on your shelf, knowing they're there for you on the days you are ready for them. I'd definitely get rid of any that make you feel frustrated either because they're too fast or because you know you'll hurt after doing them and that the discomfort doesn't make them worth doing. Then there will be the questionable ones and I'd probably keep them for now but possibly separate from the ones you know you want to keep. That way you can check them out from time to time until you feel more definite one way or the other (I have a group like this myself). Be brutally honest about how questionable they are though. If you're leaning towards not wanting to do them again then I'd put them into the trade pile so that you have room for and only see the ones that bring you pleasure and good workout type pain! ;-) That's my 2 cents anyway. Will your back ever be "normal"? What is the current prognosis?
Guest guest
Even the ones you think you shouldn't do on a regular basis might be asking for trouble...I've been really wanting to try kettlebells but the momemtum of the moves has me really afraid for fear of throwing out my back big time or injuring something else, like my shoulder that I dislocated ages ago but every once in a rare while will act up. Oh, I don't know if your chiro told you, but vacuuming is not good for the back either. I had one a few years ago that said that is one of the worst things you can do for a back. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but the next time you go, ask. I vaccuum all the time because we have a black lab and light beige carpeting, so I vacuum almost every day, sometimes twice when the shedding is back, and I when my back is already bothering me, it just aggravates it that much more. > > > Subject: Donna / Exercise Dilema > To: exercisevideos > Date: Tuesday, October 21, 2008, 12:55 PM > > > > > > > Keep in mind I am a PACKRAT, but every time I've gotten rid of a quality workout like the Firm, Voight, etc. I've almost always regretted it later and semi-sought them out again later. > > However, it feels GREAT to declutter and be surrounded only by objects that bring you true joy. > > Will your back ever be " normal " ? Guest guest
Thanks, ! Just wrote a long post to Cheryl that summed up my feelings about this! I do think that for some workouts, it is for the best. I find most of Amy Bento's Hi/Lo to be too fast paced for me to have good form while doing it - and those are the ones I think will be going first. I also think I'm going to toss Cathe's IMAX3 aside. I have other viable options for intensity that will not put me at risk (pleasantly surprised to find that jogging - at least on the treadmill - is fine for my back), so maybe it is for the best! I think I'll hold on to her kickboxing for now, as I don't recall those giving me too much trouble. Of course, the other dilemma I have is that my back was so messed up for so long it is hard for me to pinpoint what aggravated it and what didn't - and, as in my last experience w/ T-Tapp I found something that DIDN'T aggravate it previously to aggravate it now. Ah, I must have patience! Sorry you had to cancel your PT appointment - but I understand your reasons - i would have likely done the same. At least you did get some good feedback from your initial session that has been helpful in directing your home program and that is great! Take care!
