Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I did Absolute Kickboxing with Spreen today. It is a CIA workout (# 2705???). This one has some interesting workout options on it. There is a straighforward kickboxing section and also a " combat interval " section that uses a body bar for various " stick fighting " type moves. The workout can be done in a variety of ways - do both sections together, do only one of the sections, or do it as an interval/circuit style workout (alternating straight kickboxing sections with combat interval sections). There are several " pre-mixes " on the DVD that allow for these options. Today, I did the workout in " order " - meaning, warm-up, cardio kickboxing, kickboxing cool-down, combat intervals, core (which I skipped today), stretch. I actually had to skip the core section today b/c I ran out of time - but I felt that my core got a good workout during the kickboxing sections and particularly the combat interval sections. I will likely add the core work on to tomorrow's workout in lieu of Ab Ripper X. The warm-up is quite good and really gets you going. The kickboxing section was good - but I didn't find it terribly intense aerobic-wise. I think with a second run through I can put more into it, but it doesn't have the intensity of some of my other kickboxing workouts. Weighted gloves may help, too. It doesn't take up a whole lot of space, if you're space challenged. The kickboxing cool down is a nice little loosening-up session along with some balance challenges. The combat interval section is really fun and different. recommends nothing heavier than a 9 lb bar, and I agree. I actually alternated between my Amped Bar (3 lbs) and my Firm Sculpting Stick (8lbs). The Amped bar felt too light at times, but I like the length of the smaller bar as I'm not afraid of smacking a lamp or anything else that may be in my space (I may pull the " twigs " off my sculpting stick next time). For some of the moves a full length bar is needed, although I suppose you can challenge your balance and not use the bar for those sections. I'm glad to have found another use for my Amped bar, though and I'm happy with the functional core workout that I got doing this section. I did skip core - but hopefully tomorrow I'll fit that in. Looks to be a combo of standing and seated ab work using light weights. The stretch was good - mostly lower body - the stretches were held for a decent amount of time, although I did pause the DVD to hold them for even longer. My hips/back were pretty tight after this workout. Overall I'd give it a B/B+ for intensity but an A for fun... Take care, Donna ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile.
