Weekend Workouts

Hi Everyone,

I had a super busy weekend so I haven't had time to check in. Saturday was my normal "rest" day - although I had lots to do - housework, a b'day party for DD's friend and her swimming lessons (I'm so happy I found this class at the Y - she is enjoying it so much and is doing so well - she went from being fearful to "don't hold me mom I want to do it myself"!). Then, Sunday we had a brunch to go to for one of DH's co-workers who got married in NYC a few months ago (this was his "DC" party). So, lots of running around stuff.

Sat - was "rest"

Sunday I did Charlene Prickett's Tie One On - this is another hour long low impact routine of Charlene's. This one is filmed on the white background - so no outdoor scenery to admire. She has two backgrounders - and another lady (I can't remember her name but she is in other workouts w/ Charlene as well - ??). Sometimes Charlene lets the backgrounders lead a section or two. For some reason, this workout bothered my back. I suspect it may have been b/c many of the movements required a slightly forward-leaning posture and I think that may have not been the best - so after I was done I was very tight in my lower back and had to stretch a lot. The tightness did finally go away during the course of the day - so that was a good thing. I may not pull this one out again for a little while, though, the other two Charlene's I did (Low Impact, High Intensity and Start Your Engines) were a little more back

friendly. I think in this one there were a lot of "repeater" knees - like you would do on a step and I think that moves puts you in a slight foward lean which stresses the back. I also did Caribbean Workout Pilates - focus on the abdominals yesterday. A good one! I like the way back work and stretching is also included in most of these routines!

Today I felt like doing Ellen Barrett's Fat Burning Pilates. I wanted to see how my back would do with that type of exercise, as I'd like to get Ellen's "Studio" workouts at some point. I'm happy to say my back did great with this one and not only did it not feel tight afterwards, but I actually felt looser! YAY! I think Ellen's "studio" workouts will go on my wish list now since I suspect her Fat Burning Fusion is similar to this one. I would kind of like to give her Burn & Firm Pilates a try (I have done it before), but I"m a little nervous about weights since they sent my back into fits last week - of course, this would be a bit different than what I did last week and perhaps I can drop the weights for anything questionable. I'll think about it!

I would have liked to add somethign else on this morning, but DD was up and she was being very good and I didn't want to push my luck! If I get a chance tonight I may throw in some mat work.

I feel like taking it easy this week - not sure why - so I may just do that and do more "gentle" workouts.

I didn't get my push-ups in over the weekend! There were certainly opportunities, but I just didn't feel like doing them. I'll get 'em done tomorrow though. Today is more stair climbing at work. For some reason, the stairs have much less of a dread factor than the push-ups.

Oh, on an enabling front. Total Fitness DVDs is having a sale this week - 10 Min Solution DVDs for $5.99. The only one I think I really want is the Pilates on the stability ball one - and I think you have to spend $19 to get free shipping. I'll check out their selection though!

Take care,

Donna
