Guest guest
Hi Misty, First enjoy all those cast-free hugs! And fun in the bathtub. We never had the exact same problem and 's spine was somewhat flexible, but after his 2nd cast, he basically stayed the same. He was at 19-21 for cast 3,4 and 5. His 6th and final cast got him down to 15. After that he started wearing his brace. Only because the cast was not doing any more for him. Plus his doctor felt like it was time to see what his spine would/could do. How many casts has Haley had now? Feel good about it all if Dr. Khoury still has hope for casting. Keep us posted on things. Hang in there. Tasha mistyhld wrote: Hi Everyone, I posted Tuesday about us heading back to B'ham so Dr.Khoury could look at Haley's cast. I thought it was too short. Dr. Khoury looked at the cast and said that it seemed to have a good anchor around her pelvis but he still wanted an x-ray. When we left the hospital 2 weeks ago he said the cast was holding her at 20 degrees. The x-ray he took Wednesday showed it was holding her at 22 degrees. He debated about what to do...if he should leave the cast on her 2-3 more weeeks, or take the cast off and let her have 2 weeks without it. ***He was not super excited about her curve out of cast being 26 degrees, and the cast only holding her at 22 degrees. He basically said that the cast wasn't doing a whole lot for her, with only 4 degrees difference. He HOPES that the 2 weeks of freedom will loosen her spine up a bit, and that he will get her below 20 degrees in the next cast.(The lowest # in cast she's ever been at is 20 degrees) We are HOPING this works for her. He always stresses to us just how rigid her spine is and that he pushes it as far as he can with each cast. Has anyone else ever experienced this...where you can't get past a certain # in cast? He said her rotation is " not bad " Then Dr. Khoury discussed bracing with us. Then he sat there a minute and said never mind, that he wasn't quite ready to give up (casting) on Haley. So, maybe he still has high hopes for her??? Any thoughts? Misty and Haley --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search. Guest guest
Hi Tasha, we are REALLY enjoying snuggle time and LOTS of hugs. I can hardly get her out of the bath without her screaming! She is loving her freedom. She looks so different. This is will be Haley's 5th Mehta cast. Thanks so much Misty Tasha Fontenot wrote: Hi Misty, First enjoy all those cast-free hugs! Guest guest
Hi Misty, Sorry for the late response, but I am so behind on email! I would have to say I think if Dr Khoury wants to keep trying with casting, then he is hopeful that it will work for Haley. As you know, he's not one to sugar coat things. I'm sorry that cast wasn't helping, since you probably feel like you're losing time, but I hope this time out of cast will help and she'll get some good results with the next one! At the very least, you are so lucky to be enjoying your child without her turtle shell for a while!
