Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Can someone put a name to this for me please? (9 years ASD) finds it difficult (almost impossible) to quickly change his thinking. He learns very quickly (especially rote). He learnt (at the age of 3) how to add but when he learnt multiplication he then couldn’t add up any more! It has always been an issue for him, replacing one learnt thing with another. Of course he can both add and multiply but he can’t swap between the two quickly so if you ask him some multiplication questions and throw in a simple addition (like an ABA distractor) he can’t do it. Then he gets frustrated and says he is stupid which is causing a lack of confidence, and worst of all low expectations (from school). He is learning to play the keyboard and is very good at it but again if he is playing chords with one hand and the teacher moves (quickly without adjustment time for him) on to playing hands together (which he can do) he can’t stop playing chords even though he knows that isn’t right! If anyone can give me a label for this and even better ideas/techniques/therapies/supps it would be gratefully received. Cheers n
