Guest guest
Hi everyone, Sometimes a picture is worth 1000 words isn't it? And sometimes pictures trigger some emotions. Particularly when the pictures also express exactly what the perfume Art has become: a money-making machine, against Goliath. I do not need to debate further on it: just look at the two pictures below (URL) and tell me which one you prefer as Artisan perfumers, as Real Artists who strive to paint smells. PICTURE 1 http://www.theperfumemagazine.com/JUNE2012/Celebrating-20-Years-of-Perfume-Histo\ ry-by--Colton.html PICTURE 2 http://www.theperfumemagazine.com/JUNE2012/ARTISAN-FRAGRANCE-SALON-RAPHAELLA-BAR\ KLEY.html Now, look at the list below the Colton picture. What do you notice? They all work as perfumers for the same companies namely Firmenich, IFF, Symrise, Givaudan and et - exactly 5 companies which through spending 100s of thousands of dollars succeed in making the world believe that those perfumes are great perfumes. Since I am in my rebel day, I go even further: the perfumers look like office clerks or bank executives... I do not see a hint of artistry in their way of presenting themselves nor of sensibility should I say. So the question is: why do they advocate they are artists? The FIFI awards is playing us, the real artists. Indeed by necessity, and because they recognise that Perfumery Art is actually in growing demand and is rather bothering them, the Big 5- they pretend to get interested in Artisan's works but how many Artisan perfumers who are only using 100% pure essential oils without cheating have been recognised by this pretence of rewards body? Unfortunately for us, these big 5 are also those who have contributed to the price of essential oils becoming as expensive as gold. Because they still do need pure plants to do their tampering and their chemical transformation into bad (and cheap) synthetics that will allow them to carry on taking all the gains. A bit like those companies that have jumped on the organics/natural bandwagon but whose products contain a mere 5% of organic ingredients! How long will they fool the end consumer is where I believe, we as artisans must carry on the fight. Don't believe that I am envious... How can an artist envy someone who will never feel the pleasure of really painting a smell? Even though my work of art might never become a worldwide best-seller, I'd rather (like many artists) stick to my guns and produce purity! My point is that we, the s, must carry on annoying the Goliaths until the Art of Perfumery is back into our daily lives... A challenge of course.
