Guest guest
hi everyone, I'm sorry I've been so quiet lately. On Dec 10th I had basically a two for one surgery on my right ear to remove a cholestatoma and to rebuild my middle ear at the same time. Most surgeons will do these surgeries in two surgeries, but we found one in Nashville that is probably one of the best ear docs I've ever been to that did them both at the same time. I looked like I was in a boxing match and lost for the first 10 days or so, but I survived. My right ear still hurts, I still have tinititus (which is normal) in it and I still can barely hear out of that ear (which is also normal). He actually had to go through the back of my ear, basiclly about cutting a good 3 inches behind my ear to get enough space to do the repair work he needed to do. In doing so, it cuts the nerves that go to your head and ear, so the outside of my ear is both numb and very sensitive in places and my head, straight down the middle is numb in places and yet in other places so sensitive to touch that I'll jump a mile if something touches it. This sensation goes all the way down my neck. It's such a weird feeling, it makes it hard to put your head on a pillow, and yet that is all you want to do. Anyway, Until today, I haven't felt like checking email or doing much. Christmas was fun, but I kept as low key as possible with my family at our home. I now know what it is like to only be able to hear out of one ear - it is very odd.. I found out that you need both ears to be able to understand where sound is coming from (directionally). I never really got that before. We went to see the surgeon two weeks after the surgery and he said it will be spring before everything is back to normal, but that everything I'm experiencing is normal. Even the vertigo. Great, I thought - another thing to have for a few months. Anyway, he was a great ear doc and I get another doc to go to for checkups . When we got back from seeing him, I had developed Shingles on my left side of my body (sorry guys) right under neath my chest were your bra strap would hit... The doctor said it was because my body had been under stress and couldn't take any more, so out came shingles again (fourth time). So this is why I've been somewhat quiet on the board Anyway - I wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Holidays and a Happy New year.
