Guest guest
Hi everyone! I had sent all my x-rays by mail & Dr. Rubery in Rochester reviewed. We followed up with an appointment to meet him per his request. This all happened very quickly. While at our appointment he gave us the option to cast the next morning. I have to say from just reading everyones e-mails on this support group i felt we were as ready as we could ever be. We drove 5 hours to Dr. Rubery -Rochester University (Strong Memorial) & we do not regret any of it. Dr. Rubery was great to speak with & i truly have the impression that he loves what he does, loves children & would go to any extent to make sure that his patient has what they need. The hospital itself was accomodating, clean & organized. Quite a different trip than we are used to with Columbia Presbyterian in NY. Becky went through pre-op great & the surgery of casting to when we were able to see her in post-op was about 1hr 45min. She was still asleep for about 1/2 hr more, (we were in the hospital from 7:00AM to 12:30 PM. Becky is 22 months old with an s curve, 30 degrees right thoracic & left lumbar of 14 degrees. The RVAD was 17 in January & 5 the day we were at the office (May). The RVAD i guess can fluctuate depending on how your child is standing or moving during x-ray. I do not have the actual #'s in cast but Rubery was very impressed at the results, he showed us the before & after x-rays. We are awaiting the in cast #'s from his office. Becky has adjusted to the cast very well, it is amazing what children can do. Tough sitting to standing & bending in general. She has learned to go to her knees or use somthing to help her down & back up. She is working on the laying on her back, stomach, side & rolling over. I give so much appreciation & gratitiude to this site for if this was not available i would not have gotten this far & felt some stress relief. i thank all of you that have put your time & effort into gathering information & sharing. & Becky. Guest guest
We are in NY, in Sullivan County, just right on the boarder of Orange County. We were traveling about 2 hrs to Columbia. I know you mentioned you stay at the t. The Hospital booked us a room in the RIT conference Center (free) the 1st night & then $45 & change the 2nd night. The Hotel was alright I just worry for they use it for college dorms. Not that i heard a peep or saw a lot of students. We stayed over on a Tuesday & Wednesday also, not sure what it would be like on a weekend. Does your daughter have an over the shoulder cast? Beckys cast is quite thick & over the shoulder & has quite a bit of space when she sits down (almost like two handles). We have yet to put on the waterproof tape. She has a pink cast but when all the moleskin is put on it looks brown. Have you decorated Noelles cast? Becky will be turning 2 in July & we are thinking of doing a birthday theme. Do you know if you can decorate after the waterproof tape? Well its not even a week & there are so many questions. Thanks Hi everyone!
