Pam,

When she had the " adjustment period " - was it just a comfort level for

her or did you have to go to B'ham and get adjustments made to her

orthosis?

I keep coming back to the fact that no one here makes Providence

braces well and Dr. Khoury is really a believer in it for the babies.

If the adjustments you mentioned are typical (roughly two per year,

every 6 months) we could definitely swing that type of travel

considering we're going down there now every 2 months. I was under

the impression it would be much much more frequent.

Can I also ask how many braces she's had to have made? Our insurance

only covers $2500 a year in orthotics, which we were told is less than

the cost of one Providence brace. We're trying to figure out if we

need to pursue a Shriners doctor for bracing so that he's covered or

if we are okay with one brace per year.

Thanks

Sandi

Tina,

It was great meeting y'all! Sophia is so adorable. I am SO excited to hear your great news about her rotation improving and going to a brace so soon! Woo hoo! I bet you can hardly believe it after how long she's been in casts. I'm so glad her curve did not worsen in her last cast. I remember reading some other moms saying the docs are not casting to a certain degree, but to a balanced body. So it's possible that 11 degrees, which is really low, is pretty close to her balance point! Anyway, thanks so much for the update--I'm so happy for you!

Do you have your next cast date yet?

Tina,My daughter has seen Dr. K since February 2005. Carly was fitted for a Providence brace last June 2007. We have had two follow up visits, one in October 2007 and one in April 2008. Our goal was to hold her curves, however, at both visits she has had improvements in both of her curves. The orthotist in Birmingham is fantastic. Carly was 4 1/2 at the time of the fitting. She did have about a two week adjustment period to the brace. However, after that we really have not had any problems. If you would like to talk please email me your phone number.Thanks.Pam>> Hope that you are all doing great. Just got back from

How long did they wear the brace per day and total (1 > yr?)? Were they able to sleep through the night in it? Any issues or > insights? How often did you have to have it adjusted or changed out?> > Thanks!!> Tina>

Thanks !

We are waiting to hear back from on our date, but guessing 8 weeks- so early August. How about you? They won't need an OR slot since they want to have her molded for the brace one day then see Dr. K the next day in clinic for a fitting. Yes, we are so excited to be moving to the next phase of treatment. 11 degrees with minor or no rotation is great compared to a rapidly progressing curve of almost 40 degrees with significant rotation where we started. We are so grateful for , Dr. Mehta and the opportunities that their dedication to this treatment have given to Sophia! Wishing all the best for Todd and great correction for him in his new cast. Please keep us posted.
