Unfortunately this happens to many with something other then a run of mill sickness. Some of the reason for this is related to politics. Things like how Dr are licensed and research funds are used. The ones that have the best lobbiest at least in the US control much of our medical care. I belive that if were as a group want to help others not go through some of what we go through we have to find a way to change the way our current medical system does things. We now have close to 600 members. We are getting big enough so we should be able to have some affect on changing the system.

Guest guest
Somehow we need to make our voices heard. Since each state has medical board that licenses Dr this may be a good place to start. We need to show them how Dr just don't seem to understand how to DX PA. At least in NH before a Dr can renew there lincense they have to complete all Continuing Medical Education requirements. Seems like one of the courses should be an up date on PA. From the NH medical board site Mission Statement To protect the public from the unprofessional, incompetent, or impaired practice of medicine. The Board of Medicine issues licenses to qualified Allopathic and Osteopathic physicians and physician assistants based on nationally recognized credentialing standards. The Board regulates the minimum standards for professional conduct and continued competence and takes disciplinary action against licensees who fail to meet these standards. > > What exactly do you propose? > > Natalia > > > > > > ________________________________ > > To: hyperaldosteronism > Sent: Tue, June 7, 2011 9:09:07 AM > Subject: How do we balance what this group should be about > > > For many of us getting a diagnoses has been the biggest problem. Guest guest
Dr. Grim,It seems very important, at least for me and maybe to some other members of our group. Please, don't stop this! Can we write some petition to some official institution and collect as many signatures as possible? Do you know, guys, of course, we have to fight for our own health and well being, but it's also very important to make things better to all sick people - patients. Not all of them are here on this site, but they also suffer from the same problem that we do. Let's help each other and others! We are very, very lucky this time. Are you sure that next time with next diagnosis we will have the same luck? Maybe somebody else then will help us!! And my opinion is that political discussions related to health problems are very important. If somebody doesn't like that - don't read that! Who said that - o or Jaimie - not all of us are pregnant or have erection problems, so what? Thank you very much. Let's not only hug each other but also help each other as much as we can.NataliaTo: hyperaldosteronism Sent: Tue, June 7, 2011 8:08:18 PMSubject: Re: How do we balance what this group should be about Somehow we need to make our voices heard. Guest guest
Or we need an Ophra to get it.Recall all the Diabetes Education funding came from Newt Gingrich's mother's diabetes care which he wanted to improve for her and everyone else.Sorry about the political insert but appropriate here I think. At the 30th Anniv of HIV-AIDS we know what a powerful lobby group can do for medical care.CE Grim MDMaybe we should try to get on the new The Doctor's show or have Dr. Phil do a show on PA. Guest guest
Drugs.com and some other databases do list spiro first as a diagnostic tool for hyperaldonsteronism. I paraphrased that, but that is a start at least. Dr Grimm now you are part of the Hipertension Guidelines Board right ? now you DO have the power to not only recommend it but make it a rule, to add spiro to drug resistant HTN right ?So I think in there lies the power to fix this issue and go over all politics and problems. Guest guest
Excellent example of when something political is appropriate to the discussion. However, if I were to now go off on a diatribe of my personal feelings toward Gingrich, that would be highly inappropriate > > >> > > > > >> > > For many of us getting a diagnoses has been the biggest > > problem. > > >> > Some like me are still trying to that DX. Guest guest
I was considering skipping this thread because I was afraid I might get too involved if it was political (last times I got involved in local politics I ended up spending 4 yrs as VP of Vt Amateur Hockey Assoc. and then 7 yrs on the local H.S. Board - can't resist temptation!) With that intro I then came to Dr. Grim's post and I think that is exactly how I was Dxed. I believe you have to back out of the Spiro if you want further proof and I was doing so well we didn't see the need. I and anyone else that was skipping this thread would have missed this important insight! Maybe we could try this: If a thread is Political put the word " POLITICAL " in the Subject along with what you are discussing. Then everyone that is following it could be policing and repost if something comes across that is info that everyone might be interested in and the rest of us could feel comfortable skipping the thread. Just a thought! > > > > > > For many of us getting a diagnoses has been the biggest problem. > > Some like me are still trying to that DX. Guest guest
You and I need to write up your case for the PA literature.CE Grim MDI will second that as one of the most opinionated (but maybe the brightest, good looking, strong, etc ...and now lying) posters that even I, as rough around the edges as I am, have learned more with you all and Dr G about PA of course, what works, what doesn't, what other concerns that come with the illness and on and on. I am fixing my holes I had in treating my own patients and will get my colleagues up to par and since I have PA and have trod that long path to get here I want to change this. Its a neglected disease We need an organization of survivors and make this overlooked, understudied, and this brushed aside bugSubject: Re: Re: How do we balance what this group should be aboutTo: hyperaldosteronism Date: Wednesday, June 8, 2011, 3:55 PM Thank you very much, Val. I appreciate the fact that during the course of this discussion I learned more about you and some others, even if our opinions differ sometimes. Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of Natalia KamnevaAnd my opinion is that political discussions related to health problems are very important. If somebody doesn't like that - don't read that! Who said that - o or Jaimie - not all of us are pregnant or have erection problems, so what? Guest guest
I don't really care for the political banter as I have little time to read this email, but I look at it like I look at yard sales. You never know what you are going to find. I can delete super fast if I am not interested and I feel that I have learned so much about many of you. I have opinions on nearly everything, but rarely post long posts as I don't have time. I have truly loved being apart of this group. For the first time I feel that there is a group of people with an interest in my medical problem and I feel validation that I am not crazy. I really appreciate all of your input. I have learned much and appreciate your sharing.41 yo WF, 5 kids, Marine wife, moving in three weeks, PA dianosed in 2007, controlled with DASH and K supplements 20 MEQTo: hyperaldosteronism Sent: Wed, June 8, 2011 8:01:28 PMSubject: Re: How do we balance what this group should be about I was considering skipping this thread because I was afraid I might get too involved if it was political (last times I got involved in local politics I ended up spending 4 yrs as VP of Vt Amateur Hockey Assoc. and then 7 yrs on the local H.S. Maybe we could try this: If a thread is Political put the word "POLITICAL" in the Subject along with what you are discussing. Then everyone that is following it could be policing and repost if something comes across that is info that everyone might be interested in and the rest of us could feel comfortable skipping the thread. Guest guest
As long as we have it in the subject title that will help those who want to ignore it.CE Grim MDI don't really care for the political banter as I have little time to read this email, but I look at it like I look at yard sales. Guest guest
While writing up a case for PA literature is a good thing. The question is who will read it? Seems like there is much out there about PA and Dr Henry Black has tried to educate others about PA seems like Dr are not getting it. Much can be found one the American Heart Association's web site about PA. When someone like the American Heart Association can't get the word out about PA Who can? > > > > > > Subject: Re: Re: How do we balance what this > > group should be about > > To: hyperaldosteronism > > Date: Wednesday, June 8, 2011, 3:55 PM > > > > > > Thank you very much, Val.
