I am just going to chime in and say it may be just a coincidence. My child with scoliosis is very flexible, this is not an issue for her. However, my daughter who does not have scoliosis is so very inflexible, can not even bend to touch her toes. When I brought this up my mother reminded me that she never could touch her toes, nor could my brother. So maybe ask loved ones if there are any tight muscled people in the family, it might ease your mind. Not to say that you shouldn't do stretching exercises and such but it may just be who they are.

, Okay, so Max isn't the only child with scoliosis and tight hamstrings. I have been very concerned about his hamstrings and been told a few things.Dr. Sturm (who casted and performed the VEPTR II on Max) said it was hard to determine if the tightness is "just the way Max is" or is related to him being in 10 casts. He thought no PT was necessary. I beg to differ and followed up with a PT evaluation. I'll have to pulll out the PT report and read closer. Our pediatrician is relating to Max being in a cast. Max has his 3 year old check next month and has his VEPTR expansion plus genetic testing for Marfan's in August. If you find out any more from Dr. Emans about this, I would love info from his perspective being that Dr. Emams too performs many VEPTR surgeries. Max walks, runs, and sits on the floor with his knees bent. He can extend them when on his tip toes for the most part. If he puts his leg in the air his knees are also bent and doesn't get his leg up far either. Are you doing leg stretches (extensions) with Adan? Did Dr. Emans recommend a PT eval?I'll let you know more about Max's recent eval report. Thanks again for brining up the topic. Aekta>> Hi all> We have just had our 1 year post brace appt for Adan and Dr Emans > agreed we can lay off f/t brace wear to part time We said we were > worried too much pushing in the Thoracic might cause the curve to go > they other way and he agrees saying he has seen that happen.> I wish he wanted to mold a new brace because this one is 1 year old > but he said it was still good for nighttime.
