Guest guest
Hey there Kirk, your just like that old Timex watch commercial, you take a licking and keep on ticking.Sounds like your old Chevy is in better shape than me! I am so happy you are back, been a little slow here lately with everyone celebrating their Holiday's and all.Been really clean language too! LOL You are a positive influence in this family and are really missed when you're gone.By the way I am sending you all my snow,we have been snowed in more in the last month according to my neighbors than in the last few years. My daughter lives on the other side of Michigan a mile and a half from Lake Michigan and before Christmas they had already passed their yearly 41 inches! Could you bring your plow here?Take care and I wish for you a very Happy and much less pain New Year. love Elly
Guest guest
HELL, if the people in that area don't mind paying for a plow (I'm reasonable, too cheap in reality (but don't have much choice when I'll only take " GREEN " )) I'd move out there in a heartbeat.......but that defeats my dream of oneday living where it is a hell of a lot warmer than it is here! My best friend lives outside of Nashville and I like it there (my kind of people...they don't care what you do so long as you don't bother them....and they get rowdy too!) and also liked Ga, Tx etc.... I'd love Florida but could never afford it, but they have some of the best Bass fishing in the States.....and although Cali would be great for that too I don't think I could handle the majority of the people there. When I was in the Army I had a rather large problem with people from that state in particular. Glad to hear from you, have a good one. Guest guest
Kirk - when we moved to TN (about an hour east of Nashville) we couldn't believe how cheap it was - everything is much cheaper here than on the west coast. Then we found out it is like one of the five cheapest places to live. We still talk about how we would love to have a place for the three coldest months in a really warm place, but gotta tell you, we love it here... spring, summer, falls, are awesome.. I especially love summers.. NICE AND WARM.. Spring too.. Anyway, I don't blame you for wanting to get out of the colder winters. So far we have had one week were it's been cold, the rest of the time it's been between 45 and 65 in the daytime (nights can get cold). But I love going outside with hardly a jacket on in the middle of winter. If you are looking for affordable and not too bad for winter (although still a couple of weeks here and there that get cold and even a tiny bit of snow), go for outside of Nashville, we didn't know if we were going to find friends easily, but my family is all here, but we really love it. Alli > HELL, if the people in that area don't mind paying for a plow (I'm > reasonable, too cheap in reality (but don't have much choice when I'll only > take " GREEN " )) I'd move out there in a heartbeat.......but that defeats my > dream of oneday living where it is a hell of a lot warmer than it is here! > My best friend lives outside of Nashville and I like it there (my kind of > people...they don't care what you do so long as you don't bother > them....and > they get rowdy too!) and also liked Ga, Tx etc.... Guest guest
You are probably pretty close to my best friend. He lives about 30 minutes East of Nashville. I think the town is Lebanon? That may be where he used to live or where he is now...either way he isn't far from Nashville. I spent a week every year there until I got whacked...... now I can't afford it, but still loved the area & the people. PS moved there from Pittsburg as it was ranked as one of the most economical places to live in the country, and that had to be at least 10 years ago. I think it was ranked 6th or 7th at that time, and the cost of living index is a lot higher than NE Pa, the hell hole where I live. Guest guest
Sure, we pass Lebanon every time I go to my specialists.. at least once a month if not more. (my husband always drives). It's about 25 minutes from us. If you ever come down to visit him you have to tell me. We'll want to get together. Either at our house or your buddy's. We have a great pool, so if it's the summer, maybe at our house, if your buddy wants to come too. Otherwise, we'll come to you. It's not far at all really, just down I-40. Lebanon is very close to Cookeville (which is where we are) the are still ranked most affordable places to live. Cookeville has a university (UT) look into it for your boys - if you were a resident here for a year before they started college, rates are incredibly cheep and it is a very highly rated college for tech and all kinds of programs (4 yr program). Before we moved to Seattle, we lived in on the coast in NJ, which we never would have been able to buy a house in as a young couple. We use to take trips to PA all the time, but didn't get past Philly or the Amish area most times (not until we drove all the way through Pittsburg to get to Seattle). But yeah, you happen to live in the 200mile radius area of the US in which 1/3 of the US population lives... NYC being the central point... scary huh? We were in that radius as I grew up, until we moved when I was about 24. So expensive in that area. And it's such a RAT RACE Too!! I know because I've lived there and in other places now. Anyway, if you ever do get down here, we have to get together for a bbque... my hub does awesome steaks and veggies on the bbque... alli > You are probably pretty close to my best friend. Guest guest
Funny...I asked where you live in my last reply to you and now see you already sent the info! I have to ask which town he lives in now as he either had an apartment in Cookeville and bought a house in Lebanon or the other way around....I can't remember! I do know he is on a shade over 4 Acres now, and where he lives it appears to be pretty rural! Joisey huh??? That state is ridiculous with real estate prices and such! My Aunt lived in Plainfield and just sold her house that cost 40k in the 60's for a shade over 400k now! She bought a small house next to my Parents' cottage on a small lake about 9 miles from my house for 60k, and had an addition added for another 30........she now has more room than she ever had! Seattle???? That is one city I don't think I'd like too much. I hate rain, and I think that is about everyday out there if I've heard right...LOL. I know your area in TN pretty well and I love the hell out of it. Too bad my wife will not move as I'd be down there in a heartbeat! Decent jobs, affordable cost of living.......no RIDICULOUS property taxes like I pay now (just under 4k/year!!!!) PLUS Southern people are by far the best type of people I have ever met in my life! I learned most of what I know about people from various parts of our country when I was in the Army......most people from big cities needed a bullet in between their eyes...regardless of color, education, religion etc.... while the simple southern guys were polite, friendly and some of the best friends I had at that time! I was also at a bar in Nashville a few years back .....getting rowdy (my best friend & I were always up for a fight...and took out as many as 8 at a time when he lived back here as everyone around here (well, almost everyone....at least 75% of them) drink, get stupid and start fights.....we'd mop them up!) when I beat him in a game of shuffleboard I jumped up and a little bit back......spilling the pitcher of beer this rather large dude was carrying back to his table. If this would have happened within 25 miles of my house I would have had to swing immediately as his punch would have already hit me.........I apologized to the guy and he came off with " You ain't from around here boy...are you? " and my mind was racing...should I drill him now or see what happens next......I told him no...he asked me " where are you from then? " and I notice my best friend was already alongside of me...thinking the same exact thing I was......I almost shit when the next sentence came out of his mouth..... " Well then Mr. Pennsylvania.......let me buy you a God Damn beer! " We partied with him and his friends all damn night long. They were great. I never saw anything like that happen up in these parts. I can honestly say that I never met anyone that gave me a reason not to like them down there. Real good people! Oh well.....I sure as hell hope that I can sleep tonight! I saw 6:00 AM last night...and 5:30 the night before that! Have a good one, Kirk. 2009/1/1 alli m > Sure, we pass Lebanon every time I go to my specialists.. at least once > a > month if not more. Guest guest
Yeah - lived four blocks from the ocean before we moved to seattle - liked were we were, but so expensive, never could have afforded it. But I was so protected as a kid - not in the city in NJ.. right on the coast, had the beach in the summer, little town, everyone knew each other. Now that town is so pretentious the little house my great-great grandfather built is worth 1.5 million... my parents bought it in 62 for like 13k. pathetic. Seattle's rain killed me, but the people were nice - probably the nicest for any city I have ever been in. But man, the last year we were their, I was so sick from Oct - May because of the rain and stills. I had anti-biotics every month and in bed the whole winter - Docs said get out of here before it kills you. so we did. Now we have our family around us, so it's much better. anyway - I am in so much pain tonight - I gotta go. alli > Funny...I asked where you live in my last reply to you and now see you > already sent the info!
