Guest guest
Hi Tina,I'm so HAPPY for Sophia! Hopefully she will adjust quickly to the brace. The 2 xray pictures are amazing! She is such a sweetheart! I was looking at the pictures on my laptop. saw her pictures and realized she had a brace like him. He got a little excited about seeing someone else with a brace. And BTW he loved the butterflies! Keep us posted!TashaMommy of twin boys- and 3 years oldFort Worth, Texas is 7.5 degrees and brace free during the day!!!Casting 14 months and bracing 10 monthsFrom: tinamorris11 Subject: Sophia's braceTo: infantile_scoliosis Date: Wednesday, August 13, 2008, 1:57 PM Well, we finally got the second Providence brace for Sophia (the first was made incorrectly and didn't work). However, when we put it on for x-rays that afternoon we discovered she still couldn't wear it until we had it trimmed because it went up under her arm too high (she couldn't put her arm down). I overnighted the x-rays to her ortho surgeon in Birmingham and got a call the next day. His nurse said that he felt it was fine and was doing what it should. She also confirmed that it would need trimmed however before she could wear it. From here we just do x-rays every three months and send to him for review. If all goes well and her spine stays straight, then we wear the brace every night for 10-12 hours for the next year. Then we go with nothing (yes, totally free) and monitor with x-rays. I called the local brace shop here in Indy and they graciously agreed to trim her brace for us. So we went over yesterday afternoon and had it officially fitted and trimmed. She wore it last night for the first time! Luckily, she was already asleep when I put the body sock and brace on so she didn't fight too much and went back to sleep pretty quickly. She was able to wear it about 8 hrs with a handful of wake ups. We will continue to add more time each night until we are up to the 12 hours. Thanks for everyone's prayers and encouragement during this crazy journey. We aren't home free yet, but certainly have come a long way since last May. We casted from June 2007-August 2008 with 8 casts and were able to get her spine almost totally straight and derotated after starting at around 40 degrees COBB; 32 degree RVAD and signifiant rotation (she was 8 months old when we started). So Dr. Mehta's Early Treatment method really does work!! I have added a new photo album (look under Sophia M.) with pictures of her "Before" and "After" x-rays as well as pics of cast #7 and of her Providence brace. She was upset in the photo of her wearing it because we were getting x-rays. Best Wishes to everyone! Tina
