Guest guest
hi everyone, we got some unexpected news after nadia's last cast was removed. her upright x-ray had a 27 degree curve, while her last supine xray out of cast was 6 degrees four months ago. even more unexpected was our local orthopedic surgeon sudden about-face regarding the next step- he actually endorsed the plan for a providence brace (after he scared us that he was totally against it and that we would be going against his recommendation if we did)! he changed his mind because he thought she was so stiff and atrophied from being in the casts for 22 months and he wanted her free time to get strong and limber (so i guess that doesn't sound so great either.) so we got it on friday. so far nadia is tolerating it really well, and last night i tightened it all the way without a complaint! i have to say, it makes me really nervous to see her unsupported all day, and i am finding myself reminding her to not side sit or slouch to the side that would theoretically exacerbate her curve. do you all think that is a good idea? i try to do it gently. is it ok to side-sit in the direction that would " correct " her curve- does anyone know? she has a single left-sided curve with a T12 apex. thanks for all your support throughout this. best, abigail
