Guest guest
, I was told that bracing would be considered at 15-20 degrees and surgery at 25 degrees. Initially, the dr thought that it was going to resolve as he maintained at 11 for a while and then it changed. Can you tell me what RVAD is? I do not think there is any rotation of the spine. He had a MRI and I was told that was normal in terms of it being idipoathic vs some other cause. He does not have any pain or discomfort. He did go through a time where he preferred to sleep on the floor but this was more when he was 3. Thanks so much for your help. I feel like I am learning a new language. Re: Are there any exercises, stretches that help with infantile scoliosis? I'm not a doctor by any means, but Noelle's docs have pretty much all agreed that any kind of PT does not help the scoliosis itself in infants... It can help with other muscular issues, like torticollis, etc. Has his RVAD been measured and is there any rotation in the spine? 13 degrees is pretty low and I know that Dr. said we would begin bracing Noelle once she was under 10 degrees, which he considers to medically insignificant. Has any doc suggested a brace yet? Does he have any trouble with his motor skills or any discomfort? You can also send a copy of his most recent x-ray to one of the Mehta-trained docs for an evaluation.. .. They would call you with their suggestions. A lot of us have sent docs our x-rays first because most of us don't live near these very special doctors and they know that we travel quite a distance to see them. Guest guest
Thanks . When I first found out we did stretches and used some pilates type moves and then I faded off doing that after the next xray was normal and now there has been movement. The dr told me there's nothing I can do to impact it, but I want to do something. Thanks Re: Are there any exercises, stretches that help with infantile scoliosis? My dauhter has pysical therapy once a week & we have been told by two othopedists that there is no proven excercises that will help improve the curve. We continue the physical therapy for stretcing/strengthe ning. My daughters Mid section was very week due to the positining in utero (bent backwards w/ stomach protruding). We focus on strengthning the core mid section. I also think it helps with my daughters rotation & balance, by duing physical therapy. Any little bit helps i think. Guest guest
, How does the process of sending your x-rays to a Mehta-trained doctor work? Do you mail them normal post office? Is there a fee for consultation to let you know if they could help you? Where did you become so informed on the Mehta method? Thanks for all of your help. Guest guest
, I found website scoliosisrehab.com/program. It would be too old as they serve 10yo and up females and 12yo and up males. It is like an intensive 2 week camp where they teach the children how to hold themselves and develop their core. However, there is an entire physical therapy method called Schroth that was developed for Infantile and idiopathic scoliosis which I had never heard of before. Thought you might be interested. Guest guest
Thanks Steph, I live near Columbia, SC and I have seen that there is a Dr at Shriners Hospital in Greeenville, NC who is metha trained Dr P. Staskielis, (which is about 2 hours from me). I don't know anything about him and haven't ready anything about him yet on the emails. I'm not sure how 's age figures in as he is 51/2 years old. I think I'll look into the video. Thanks Re: [infantile_scoliosi s] Are there any exercises, stretches that help with infantile scoliosis? Guest guest
Val, I have also heard about Greenville Shriners, but I don't personally know anything about them... Hopefully other moms will chime in for me here!!!! I would strongly suggest that in addition to looking at the video that you also send the x-rays there.... there is no charge for them to look at your films and call you with their recommendations. You've got nothing to lose and it could provide you with valuable information and the right resources. When Noelle was first diagnosed, it was Jane at Erie Shriners who relayed all of my info to Dr. and really walked me through the beginning of my journey with Noelle's scoli. I'm hoping for the same for you!!!!!! Good luck and keep us posted.... Guest guest
Steph, I read the Metha article this weekend and was really impressed. Here's what I'm thinking call Greenville and see what they want of the records and send them? Did you send the latest x-ray or all of them. We also had leg x-rays and MRI. Just still figuring this all out. Thanks.I'll be praying for you guys as you await the results! Val Re: [infantile_scoliosi s] Are there any exercises, stretches that help with infantile scoliosis? Guest guest
Thanks Val! I would send whatever you have to give them the best overall picture.... I always included a short letter with my most important questions as well. Be sure to include your name and number with the x-rays so they can contact you and your child's age.... I would also call them first to let them know that you are sending them and to start working with a care coordinator.... You usually stay in contact with the same one and they are a godsend!!!! You are definately doing the right thing by calling to see exactly what they want sent and by reading the literature. Thanks for the prayers... I swear they help because she is doing amazingly well! Let me know when you send Greenville the x-rays.... I'm anxious to hear what they tell you! Good luck! Thinking of ya!
