Guest guest
i don't like to bother them either. unless i am in so much pain or afraid that something is wrong. i'll just live through it and deal with it on my own. i should call more though. kathy in il

He kind of laughed and showed me what he was writing in my chart - he was ordering a referral as I was telling him my current crop of pain and problems. I hate going in there and giving him a huge list of difficulties at one time (I feel like I'm whining too much). He's one of the greatest docs in the world, so I guess I ought to tell him everything that's going on. Today is the first time that I didn't try to " soften " things up. He made the referall for the rheumy, an eye appt., and is going to give me the referall for the hearing test when I get the rest out of the way. He sent me to a GI specialist about a month ago to fix the GERD, the ulcer and the scar tissue in my esophagus. Whew - what a bunch of mess! He doesn't favor a whole lot of medication until he pins something down. I guess this is my day for " venting " (a little anyway). Guest guest
Alice, It is really strange how medications work so differently for different people. Makes you wonder how phamaceuticals can manufacture drugs that are safe and predictable since you can't count on everyone reacting to the drug the same. Weird. I remember talking to the nurse in my pcp's office at an appointment after I had started treatment for my arthritis with the rheumy. We talked about the pain meds I had been prescribed and I told her that the lortabs were no better, in their own way, than the ultram. She fussed at me for not calling and complaining at the time, that they needed to know what medications worked for me and what medications didn't. I was feeling like such a pest at the time, I just couldn't bring myself to call again and complain. WHY do we do this to ourselves?? We're in pain, the medications we are prescribed aren't working, and we feel guilty for complaining. Duhhhh!! > Suzanne, Isn't it strange how medications work with one person and do > nothing (or worse) for the next? Guest guest
That's great Alice, How soon will you know when your first appointment with a rheumatologist is? Here we go again, apologizing because we are in pain. How did we get like this?? Would any of us apologize if our children, husbands, parents were in pain and in need of help??? I make a great advocate for everyone but myself... Suzanne > I saw my doc today and finally asked him to send me to a rheumatologist. The lady on the other end says since I've seen a doctor there before and since the doc on the referral sheet is different, they have to get " permission " from whoever is in charge for me to change docs! What a crock - the only time I saw a doc there was in late '99. I spent two hours waiting and two minutes seeing the rheumy. The only thing I was there for was that I had to have a second doc on my disability papers for my long term disability insurance. She said they will call me back in a day or maybe two to let me know if I have " permission " to change doctors! I was under the impression that I could see who my pcp referred me to as long as that doctor was on the Humana list of providers. Anyway, as I said, what a crock! I'll wait until Thursday to call back and then raise fits if they tell me I have to wait some more, etc.... Oh well, what's new with all of this in the big scheme of things? She did call back later this afternoon and made me an appointment for July 15. She would have made it sooner, but they had to schedule me for a time where the doctor could spend longer with me since it will be a " new patient " visit! I am really glad to finally be doing something instead of just sitting around griping! Alice in Texas
