Hi Gail,

I haven't noticed any difference with how I feel and what I eat. Some do, it

seems most don't. I used to be able to tell when bad weather was coming and

was miserable when the bad weather came! I can't say I notice any more

since the methotrexate/prednisone therapy kicked in.

Don't know why arthritic joints can tell the weather!

Red wine definitely aggravates my RA. Even just a 1/2 a glass and the next day

is much worse than usual. I do have allergies and there is a preservative in red

wine that I am allergic to as well. Fortunately, I'm not allergic to

chocolate....

Hi Gail

This article may interest you:

Influence of Weather on Report of Pain

I¹ve tried eliminating many things from my diet and can¹t say that food

influences my pain. I¹m still trying different things and the next thing

I¹m going to eliminate is grains. I highly doubt it will do anything, but I

have to try it since reading how many people with rheumatic symptoms have

inflammation due to grain intolerance. I¹ve pretty much eliminated sugar

from my diet and feel better overall and have lost weight.

Hi Gail,

I'm avoiding wheat and dairy currently, to see if they exacerbate my

symptoms. I've been off them both for about a month and a half. I have not

had a severe flare during that time, and my pain is more easily controlled.

But, it is hard to be sure if it's from the diet or from the medications. I

will try to add each next month to see if I have an increase in symptoms,

but right now I don't want to chance it making me hurt worse.

When I asked my rheumy about diet and RA, he said 1% of people have

significant improvement with dietary changes, and that 20% of that one

percent are from wheat. It's really low odds, but I figured it was worth a

try. It makes me feel like I am doing something to try to feel better.

Hugs,

Carol

I can almost predict the weather as well ( if not better ) than our local

Hi Carol,

Thanks for that info...I think I'll try eliminating wheat and see if I can

tell a difference in my pain...Any kind of pain relief is worth a try.

Thanks again :)

HI!!I,too, have a sensitivity to wines and beer . I can drink most alcohol w/o

any trouble. I was told because of the process of fermentation was why on the

beer and wine. I may have a drink a yr(usually on my birthday) anymore

because of meds. The wine and beer used to just eat at my stomach lining and

make me feel wicked no matter how much I tried to eat to coat my stomach

ahead of time. I also would get drunk very quickly on beer (never did like

beer anyway).I am also very allergic to molds, aspirin, weeds, mulberry,

etc.....and have refused penicillin because I suspect I would react to it

after all these other mold/fermentation reactions. Was receiving allergy shots

weekly till Mar02.We'll see come fall how I am.

NOw as to weather..........I feel a difference when it rains(havent had any

here in months!!!!!!), or very overcast, or humidity goes much above

30%...then I get achier, headaches ...just always assumed it was barametric

pressure . Judy in AZ

Sulfites are the preservative in red wine that effects many,

including those with asthma. There are some really nice

sulfite-free organic wines out there like those from Organic Wine

Works, but they certainly are not cheap.

No I don't mind at all..the preservative in wine is sulfites. As I understand

it, sulfites can occur naturally in foods but still cause allergic responses

especially in people with asthma.

To look at something as though we had never seen it before requires great

courage.

I have heard that many of us who have allergies to mould have a problem with

penicillan as well. I have no problem not drinking because of allergies either

so it doesn't bother me too much . When we have alot of rain and the moulds go

up I can say it bothers me but I haven't noticed that my RA flares anymore than

usual at that time....
