Guest guest
We live ~25 miles NW of Austin (Leander) and it is more affordable than the city of Austin. We take our son to Dr. Kendal , and he supports biomed and all other therapies. In addition, all of my son's treatments are covered on our insurance. Dr. has treated thousands of autistic kids and has strong referrals from other parents. http://www.neurosensorycenters.com/doctor/company.html We cannot afford Thoughtful House, but most autism doctors in Austin are following similar protocol as they have formed a close knit medical community. I have also heard good things about CARE clinics, if you need a parent to talk to I can give you a referral. Leander ISD is now training SLE (Structured Learning Environment) teachers on VBA in collaboration with CTAC (Kelle Wood). Round Rock ISD is good, but getting crowded because of more families moving there. I have also heard good things about Eanes ISD, but the homes are pricier. You will probably hear from others on best schools. Austin has an active support group, FEAT Austin. http://www.feat- austin.org/ We also just started taking our son to the HALO center with Soma, and are very pleased. http://www.halo-soma.org/about.php? sess_id=61d138d870ba2a735d5331921ef763bd There is also a great special needs ministry and sunday school (Christian) at our church and you will meet some great parents. http://www.hcbc.com/templates/System/details.asp?id=28485 & PID=212353 I hope this gets you started. Feel free to email me if you need more help. We love Austin, and our only complaint is that we spend Jan- April mainly indoors because of terrible cedar and live oak allergies.
