Guest guest
Thanks for the input Tina. It is greatly appreciated! ~ [infantile_scoliosi s] home cast removal? Has anyone ever removed your child's cast at home? If so, please explain how and where you bought the tools. We travel to SLC and arrive 3 or 4 days prior to recasting for removal. This gives her skin a break. We were just thinking if we could do it at home, that would save us some time and money. The other thing I always wondered is what if it needed to come off in an emergency? How would you remove it? Hope everyone is doing well. Haven't had time to read posts. Will try to catch up later. Guest guest
We have removed ours at home. My husband does it the night before the new cast is put on. just lays there on a towel. Probably not recommended, maybe even frowned upon, but it works for us. --- wrote: > Thanks for the input Tina. Guest guest
We use a local orthopedic surgeon for cast removal. Our casting doc is happy with this since it means Todd can have a little more time out of cast for skin to heal, etc. I think as long as your casting doctor approves the amount of time out of cast, you'd be ok having it done by someone else. As long as it can be done quickly and safely, I feel totally comfortable having a non-Mehta trained person removing the cast, but I would not want to let just anyone trim it! For emergencies, I would think you could go to any hospital and just have them page your casting doc's on-call resident if they are unsure about removing it. , Mommy to Todd [infantile_scoliosi s] home cast removal? Guest guest
We always had it removed here, but went to our local ortho to have it done. I would definitely have a local ortho following your case in the event it does need to be removed. She ended up calling Dr. Khoury before agreeing to cut the cast off and after talking to him now refers any infantile kids to the Greenville Shriners for casting.
