Debbie,

I was started at 20 mg. (I think) to start, then dropped down until I

reached a level when the pain came back. Then I would return to the dosage

that gave me the most relief. This continued till the mtx kicked in. Then I

was weaned off the prednisone 1 mg. at a time. Any larger jumps in

decreasing the dosage caused the pain to return.

I don't know about pain under the arms. My pain has always been at the top

of my shoulders. The pain there was the worst I endured. It felt like both

shoulders were broken, all the time.

I was treated by an orthopedic for carpal tunnel and tennis elbow. What do

you want to bet it was all caused by the undiagnosed RA? He was the one who

first put me on Vioxx. It worked great for about 7 months till my PCP yanked

me off it because of elevated liver enzymes. (And not very elevated, as I

know now.) I used MSM and Tylenol for the next 6 months or so, then she let

me go back on the Vioxx. It didn't work as well by then, even at a higher

dosage.
