Guest guest
Thanks for the response Gail. I guess there has been a big study just released about Premarin, or rather estrogen. I think it's a study of nurses taking estrogen replacement therapy. Results showed that estrogen didn't really protect us as well as originally thought with regard to heart issues. That bone density was better served through other drugs like Fosamax (?). And that the estrogen did increase the incidence of breast cancer. The finding was that you can take estrogen for 3-5 years and then should get off it. So that's why my doctor and I discussed it. She did say that if my quality of life was affected, that it would certainly be better to be on the premarin -- that the kind of breast cancer you get from estrogen (while no one wants any kind of cancer) is better managed than other kinds. I had visited a compounding pharmacy and they talked about plant based estrogens, etc. I think I might see how my doctor feels about me investigating that.....with maybe a bit of testosterone..... I do think I need to do some work on this and at least while I'm still working, I'll need some hormone replacement! I've only been on Premarin for about 2 years....Had My uterus removed in 1984...Still have Ovaries and tubes. ..My Gynecologist said I was a prime candidate for them. ( Premarin )..because of not having a uterus. I can only speak for myself...But while I was taking them my RA seemed to be better....There are other natural herbal remedies that you can find at any health food store. I'm thinking about trying them. My biggest fear of the Premarin is Stroke and blood clots. Seems like everything we take to feel better has so many risk. was there a particular reason your DR wanted you to try and ween yourself off it ?. Six years does not seem that long of a period to be on it... In my view. Gail Re: Hormone Replacement Linked to Gallbladder Cancer Ohhhhh My, I just had to go back on my Premarin*0.625mg yesterday.....been on them off and on for about 2 years....BUT I have had my gallbladder removed. Thought I could make it without them...But I do think they help my RA some. What's next????...Now French-fries and potato chips might cause cancer. Glad I'm not fond of either of those. Hope all of you had a good nights rest and feel better today. Gail :-)
