Guest guest
Well, so far so good. Didn't notice any nausea, and so far the other end has been fine. I woke up very thirsty. Felt kind of woozy like I used to when I drank and woke up with one heck of a hangover. Minus the headache. The monolog that came with my prescription said to be careful of sun exposure and of injury that would cause excess bruising. I bruise very easily anyway. Have a nasty one on my arm where they drew blood the other day. Also said to avoid coming in contact with those that are ill. Has anyone had any problems with colds and what is it that could happen? So far, it looks like I was worried for nothing. I know, take my folic acid and keep my appointments. Debbie Mc

Has anyone had any problems with colds and what is it that could happen? >> Hi Debbie, I am always cautious when I'm around someone who's ill, but it seems like whether I'm at a movie or on a plane or in class I will inevitably be seated next to someone who's sick. Nonetheless, I have fallen ill LESS since I've been on the MTX and Plaquenil than before I was on it. I guess now that my immune system isn't working itself to death attacking my joints it can fight more effectively. It is good sense to use antibacterial hand cleaner when you've been out in a public place, and to avoid people who are ill. Don't let it change your life, though. Hugs, Carol [ ] Not so bad.... Guest guest
Hi Carol, Great advise, and I do recall they have an anti-bacterial lotion that you can put in your purse when your out in public. I don't remember what it's called, but you don't have to rinse it off. Debbie Mc -- [ ] Not so bad.... Well, so far so good. Didn't notice any nausea, and so far the other end has been fine. Guest guest
Hi Deb: Sounds good so far! Yes, you do need to be careful of sun exposure - I am fair skinned and have always burned anyway but with a strong sunscreen I was okay; however, now even with the strongest sunscreen (45) I can burn if I am out too long. I have found Shade Sunscreen is the best one I have ever used. Remember to wear sunscreen whenever you are in the sun and don't forget to do the tops of you hands too - I have had some terrible burns on my hands - never thought about them when I was slathering it on! As far as people who are sick, it's hard to avoid when you are a mom! With me, since starting the MTX six months ago I have had bronchitis twice and my asthma has been more active - I take meds for the asthma daily too - and the brochitis came on very quickly after I caught a cold. I make sure I get my flu shots and have also had a pneumonia shot - maybe you could talk to your doctor about that. Guest guest
Debbie, I really haven't had much trouble working with or coming into contact with sick people. I've had maybe two colds, sinus infections? in the past year - I've been taking the mtx since end of January. Just recently caught something (respiratory) got fully over it in about 2 weeks, no need to go to the doctor, no need for antibiotics. Years ago I used to always get bronchitis if I got sick. That stopped some few years ago; I was afraid the mtx would set me back to those days, but it really hasn't. I work in building where people are always getting sick, have kids who get sick and pass it to their parents, as well as the public coming and going. I don't catch everything going around and can work around people who get sick and I manage to stay healhty. I think maybe the dosage of mtx is so low, and adding the folic acid back just doesn't compromise the immune system as much as we fear. Glad you're feeling okay! I take my mtx on Friday nights too. Had a good workout at the gym this morning. Now I'm feeling " lazy " and feel like taking a nap. It may be that this lazy feeling is just my reaction to the mtx. I've been attributing it to Saturday, being the first day of the weekend, and a let down day. Hmmmm... I live in the south, in a very warm and sunny environment. I don't go outside except for the normal things, going and coming to work, errands, shopping. I have noticed on long car trips that my arms sometimes get red and splotchy from sun exposure. It's enough to warn me that I don't need to volunteer at charity yard sales anymore, or hang out at the beach during the day!! Suzanne [ ] Not so bad.... > Well, so far so good. Guest guest
Hi Carol, In the beginning of my Enbrel days, I seemed to get too many infections. Since I started the nose spray Flonase (sp) for allergies, I am doing great. At one time doctors were not sure it was safe to take it every day, but from what I am told, it is considered safe now. Allegra used to work, but stopped helping at some point. (I have RA). Sincerely, Patsy [ ] Not so bad.... Well, so far so good. Didn't notice any nausea, and so far the other end has been fine. Guest guest
I have been taking MTX for 6 yrs and I try really hard to stay out of public gatherings with lots of people. When my daughter (who worked in daycare, and now works with DDkids)lived with us I was sick all the time...cos she would bring it home and get sick herself but not enough to warrant a dr for her...but it eventually made me see one....I have been getting my flu shot and pneumonia vaccine too. This yr since my 16yo son has lived with Dad M-F for school and was here only on weekends I havent been as sick.Personally, I dont think my body knows the difference tween a sneeze and the plague.Judy in AZ
Guest guest
Deb, I have been on mxt for several years, at one time 30mg once a week, am presently taking 27 mg injections once a week. I have never had nausea from it and so far not sun sensitive but I am really careful in the sun, because that can change. I take 1 mg of folic acid each day. It is the only thing that has worked for me and I have tried everything. I was prone to get broncitis several times a year. My rheumatologist recommended I get a phneomonea (not spelled right) and a flu shot (the flu shot once a year) and I do pretty well. I will still get broncitis but not as severe as before. That is my experience with mxt and everyone is different. Hope it works well for you. in WA
Guest guest
Debbie, I¹m glad you had no side effects other than thirst. Drinking at least a quart of water a day will help flush out the toxins. I try to drink at least 2 quarts of water a day. I am tired the day after, but that¹s about the worse of it. So far I have no sun sensitivity, and I¹m in my pool every day. I¹m still cautious and swim in the morning or late afternoon. Right now my husband has a cold and so does my son. So far I¹m ok, although I feel like I¹m coming down with it. But I¹ve felt that way for the last 3 days and it isn¹t getting any worse. I¹m the abnormal one of the group since I rarely get sick., but mtx lowers resistance so you may be more susceptible. You are not worrying for nothing. We all worry about these meds. But they have the potential to stop damage, so we do what we have to do. Hope you have a painfree day. Hugs, a > Well, so far so good.
