Thanks for all that information, Carol. I'm going to make an appt at the

compounding pharmacy and have an assessment. See what they have to say and

what they recommend. Then present it to my doctor and see what she says. I

think she'll give it a try....I hope so anyway.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep you posted,

Hi ,

I had a total hysterectomy when I was 31, and have tried many types of HRT.

I know that certain hormone combinations seem to exacerbate my RA, while

others help it. Emotionally, HRT has really made a difference for me. I

use natural compounded hormones, and highly recommend them. We tried many

combinations of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone and I've finally

ended up with .625 bi-est, 125 mg Progesterone. I have topical testosterone

but don't use it too often. It makes me irritable. I think in a nutshell

estrogen is the hormone of energy, progesterone is calming, and testosterone

helps with depression but can make you aggressive. Testosterone helps with

sex drive, but progesterone actually helped mine more. Everyone's needs are

different, though, and the compounding pharmacist did a consult with me, and

my MD prescribed his recommendations. After that we just tweaked it based

on my response. I feel good about using hormones that are biologically

identical to what my body produced, rather than the Premarin. Also, natural

progesterone is much different than progestins (which can have bad side

effects).

Oh, my doctor didn't know anything about natural compounded hormones, but

ended up learning a lot through my experience. I'm grateful to have such an

open minded MD. You can assure your Dr. that the compounding pharmacist

makes the recommendations, all the Dr. has to do is sign the prescription

and do the necessary exams, etc.

A great website for hormone related issues is http://www.hormonejungle.com

If you have any other questions, just let me know.

Hugs,

Carol
