Guest guest
Are these different rounds you talk about only taught at the gym? None are on exercise videos? I start ChaLEAN EXTREME tomorrow with Burn Circuit 1 - and yes I will give you a review!Wish me good luck doing CE, Jen Subject: Finally taught Round 35To: "Exercise Videos" <exercisevideos >Date: Sunday, December 28, 2008, 4:53 PM I finally taught R35 today for the first time! I was a little rusty, because I learned it all this morning before class. I was working on it yesterday when my folks called and said they were coming to pick me up 3 hours early, so there went all my allotted practice time. Oy! My AGXM, Cinnamin, showed up to class along with two other instructors, Tracie and Angie. Um, no pressure or anything! I was grateful Angie was there because she knew the round by heart and helped me where my memory failed. Thanks, Chica! You are just the best and your warm, genuine smiles kept me going! The hour went by in a blur to be honest, and it will be a couple of weeks before I get a true feel for this round. This round has an emphasis on punches, be it from corner to corner, high low (or low high), quick punches w/quick feet, triple jab crosses, etc. There is also an abundance of knees with crosses (and cross cross knees punch knees, crosses with zigzag knees, etc. so as you might surmise it is easy to confuse some of the combos with one another - the combos aren't as contrasting or distinct as they are in other rounds, so be sure and take good notes / use pnemonic techniques to help you remember the combos! I took out the double bob slice and single punch knees from section 3 because this combo has been used a lot lately and you know me, for me section 3 is about kicks, so what I did instead was do a march 2 3 roundhouse left, march 2 3 roundhouse right, 2 single lunge left, right roundhouse, then did the twist and kick front, back and front kick. What I loved about section 4 are the four single back kicks! I don't think I've seen that since Round 2 or was it Round 3? Yay! Of course back kick and march is also an option, but it seems to flow better into the ski with all 4 back kicks, at least for me. Someone on this board mentioned that Turbo was easy to learn and THANK GOODNESS, it really is! This turbo was easier to learn than a lot of them since I can remember. Yay! It's fun, and really gets the heart rate up with jumps throughout. My favorite , I confess, is the Rabbit move going back simply because it's silly and allows for individual expression. Recovery is fun and similar to some we've done in the past with high low punches, speedbag around, two uppercuts, uppercut cross to the side, pump it back. There's a “hop row” and a zig zag following that that is really fun. I will eventually take out the second set of those and add 4 front kicks as an additional layer. The finale starts as many have with four crosses zig zag knee, cross cross knee x2. After that is a blast from R17 where you twist to 10 and 2 – always love twists with turns! Back kick front kick. The last part, which stands on its own and you don't combine with the rest, is a hoot! It's a right left upper, then 3 fast and 2 jacks. After a phrase of that you do it around the world in a circle. FUN! I didn't have time for abs but I did practice them at home and they are harder than they might appear on the video, being the row, row zigzag back for 2 phrases part. I take everyone's word for it that there is a glitch on the cd but for the life of me I didn't hear it or encounter it today. The music selections are outstanding choices, and I love the new filming location on the dvd – at the new Powder Blue office / studio! I would have liked to learn a bit more about Sherry, the presenter of the quarter, maybe hear her talk a minute or two about her Turbo love, and am grateful to see someone not from the west coast on the dvd this time. I do enjoy the SoCal regulars too, I really do, but variety is the spice of life! Turbo is EVERYWHERE! So it's great to see those special instructors from everywhere too. Jenelle, you look fantastic and I don't think I could ever get tired of seeing you on a dvd! I wish I could hire you as my personal trainer! DANG! I am rooting for another Turbo Sport round, don't you know it, Gurl! My critiques for R35 are that most of the choreography seems recycled to me and that there aren't a ton of layers; I have a feeling my class will be ready to move on to an older round by week 5. On the plus side, I always like punches that change direction and I liked having more jacks in the combos. I wouldn't mind seeing a future round that featured jacks, actually. I very much appreciated that capoeira was left out of this round. I like the capo as a section apart, but prefer my cardio kickboxing to be just that – kickboxing. But that's just me and I know that others really like the capo mixed in. I have yet to do Finesse, but it looks like old school Finesse, and I'm dying to try it out! The leg section looks HARD! It commences with pushups (can we ever do too many of those?) and there is lots of balancing leg work – my personal weakness, so this will be good for me to do. I'm relatively out of shape these days, feel sluggish, and need to intensify my workouts and do them more frequently than I have been. For this reason I'm very anxiously awaiting my copy of ChaLEAN Extreme and I will review all CXT workouts I do here. I can tell from the trailers on Beach Body that this is a phenomenal program, just like Turbo Jam is! If anyone can get me to lift weights, it would be our very own special, magical Chalene ! Here's to doing more in 2009!
