a,

The first time I caught a skunk it was about 100 degrees outside. When I saw

that the trap

was down in the morning, I went to investigate since I didn't want the animal to

die in the

heat. As I approached, I thought it was a cat. Oh, boy! Not a cat. I realized

too late that

it was a skunk. It was nearly motionless. I shooed away thinking that if

it spayed,

at least he should be spared. I just calmly talked to the skunk, gently opened

up the cage,

and slowly walked away. I saw it crawl out and stagger away. I think it was too

hot and

dazed to spray.

Next season, a skunk made its home under my neighbor's porch. She was

complaining that part

of her house was beginning to faintly smell like skunk. Then that skunk started

tearing up

several lawns, including hers and mine, looking for grubs. The kids and I would

watch from

the window. It was really cool. Fascinating or not though, the yards were

looking pretty

sad. It took me 21 days to get him, but I did. This time I had read up on

skunks and how

not to get sprayed. One theory is that the skunk doesn't want to be sprayed

either, so, if

you through a tarp or blanket over the cage, you should be OK. No sudden moves

or noises.

If they are startled, they may spray. So, I approached the cage with an old

blanket

covering me and then put it over him. I had a friend with a pickup truck drive

me and the

skunk to the forest where I released him, and I've never seen or smelled another

one near

the house.

In case I failed, that same friend with the pickup truck has a son who works at

a car wash

nearby. I was going to walk through the premium wash.

Hope you and can catch those rascals soon. I know how frustrating it is.

My trap is to small and I haven¹t gotten out to get another one. The one

we have is for squirrel size critters.

Didn¹t you get sprayed when you caught the skunk?
