Sun flare

Hi Friends,

I just got back from helping a friend with a garage sale. Boy, did that

take a toll on me! She knows I have RA, but probably doesn't realize how it

affects me. I was in and out of the sun, and started swelling like crazy.

My hands looked like crimson balloons. My skin felt like it was burning,

and I'm sore as heck right now. I also had to help her move a dishwasher,

recliner chairs, tables etc after my hands had swelled up from the heat.

When I said I would do it, I knew it was a mistake. They are clients of

ours (good clients) and I really didn't want to turn her down. Also, I had

been feeling pretty good. I didn't think I would have such a problem doing

it.

Does anyone else have bad reactions to the sun? I ask because sometimes I

wonder if it's not Lupus I have rather than RA. I have a positive ANA, not

rheumatoid factor. Also, I get pleurisy symptoms (that's what my rheumy

said my chest pain last month probably was). I've had the sun sensitivity

to a much lesser degree for about 5 years. Otherwise, I would think it

might be from the MTX.

Anyway, I took 15 mg of prednisone (I hate taking prednisone) and a pain

med. The rheumy told me when I start getting bad to do a short taper of

prednisone, and it has helped me not to have any bad flares. Hopefully it

will head off this one.

Hugs and a pain free weekend to all,

Carol
