Guest guest
Hi, Suzanne! I would venture to guess that the bottom line answer to your question ( " If pain management specialists specialize in managing pain, why aren't they a viable member of a team when treating a patient with RA? " ) is: it's a matter of money. Many rheumatologists do work with pain management specialists. Some patients seek out pain management specialists on their own. Some physicians are both rheumatologists and pain management specialists. In my fantasy world, barring the possibility that no person would ever have a rheumatic disease in the first place, all rheumatologists would be pain management specialists. I am a crazy dreamer.
